uBid is an app on bidding developed by NewInBridge and is meant for smartphones and tablets. uBid allows users to practice and improve their bidding skills. Users can bid 24/7 as many hands as you like with multiple partners at the same time. Bridge players of distinct levels: basic, intermediate, and expert, can enjoy the benefits of uBid. All boards are archived and can be shared with partners, tutors, and pupils.

 

We used Scrum Agile methodology for planning short-term sprints for effective team collaboration on the project. We had regular meetings with the product owner to fix issues rapidly and also had daily meetings inside of the team. Our back-end developers upgraded the project from Tastypie to Django REST framework, and from Django 1.5 to Django 1.9 to bring it closer to the modern programming standards. We are planning to upgrade the project from Python 2.7 to Python 3.6.

Our developers improved the performance with the next arrangements:

  • Database query optimization;
  • Legacy code refactoring;
  • Creation of a separate page for the discussion board.


​We assisted with adding a newsletter service with MailChimp using Celery to send messages. Our developers worked with API to implement an interface, create a database for registration and also for syncing the database. Our team was engaged in supporting existing API and Tastypie for the application on iPhone 4. We also assisted with the creation of a tag system for users to easier arrange them with the database. We used Python, Django, and AngularJS to develop the back-end of uBid application.

The tool relies heavily on geographic analysis and data generated by the Smith school and can facilitate the creation of various applications, such as interactive web front-end applications. With this site it is possible to identify and differentiate between firms that are more or less at risk from these factors and this can inform relationship strategies. This information can also be applied to a new project- or asset-specific transactions to arrive at a ‘risk score’ and thus facilitate an understanding of what action might need to be taken internally.

Our team is responsible for creating the functional part of the project entirely as well as to redesign the UX and UI part. The major functions of the app:

  • Changing of data model architecture;
  • Adding new graphics to display additional statistics;
  • Updating functionality of profiles (users can edit their profiles, add companies, separate departures of the company, etc.);
  • Adding feature for working with own assets (users can add their own companies that are not in the database or do not even exist to get predictions);
  • Creating a registration system for new users;
  • Creating an additional system that gives rights to show a certain kind of content on the site (e.g. disable costing, closed data).

    The biggest challenge was to work with a large amount of data. Our engineers reworked the architecture, rewrite the algorithms and added caching.
    The project included specific charts with narrow functionality. We used Highcharts to set up necessary charts, customized the existing charts and added several own plugins and functions.

Great at communication, even with time zone differences. Quality work when given explicit directions. Able to take on frontend development in the middle of our MVP build, which was very useful for us.

Nothing significant. If user stories weren't precisely defined, there could be issues with the output, and sometimes a hesistancy to ask questions, but this was the exception more than the rule.

While we started with a 2 person team, over a period we have been able to scale smoothly to a larger team. Also, the company provides an ecosystem of designers, Devops, Architects etc. which helps the core developers be much more efficient. We also have specialist teams working on complex ML problems. Overall I am very satisfied with their service and look forward to continue to work with them. The only challenge I have ever faced is to do with communication as some developers didnt speak English.. but even that was taken care as the company provided a PM to support the communication process and also the developers are pretty good at written communication. If you have to hire a small team and grow to a large base in a trusted environment, AnvilEight is pretty good for that.
