DUNICE Executive Interview

Artem Degtyarev

Visit Profile
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
Dunice is an IT company in the B2B and B2C market since 2012. We have 300 projects and 100+ employees on board. We prepare, analyze, develop and support projects of varying complexity: corporate websites, high-tech applications, intranets, and CRM systems. We welcome and, most importantly, can work on the subcontract, as well as provide staffing services. The company has six years of experience bringing developers, existing clients, and partner teams on the same page. We use flexible methodologies, daily reports, and quality control.

I am the CEO of the company since its very beginning. My role is to regulate and improve our business processes.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
Well, through my personal experience I found out that the service market is not very good and client-oriented. That’s when I thought that it would be great if people had such service providing company which offered not only good quality product but also provided great service, company that cares about the clients and is focused on solving clients problems. And then I thought if anyone could do it, why we shouldn’t try out. And that’s when everything’s started.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We have an in-house team of developers, designers, QA engineers, and managers. We’re working on outsource basis with our clients.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
Unlike many other companies, we focus on client’s needs and solve their business problems using our products. We don't just blindly follow technical tasks. We analyze the client’s market, cooperate, suggest some improvements, which, in turn, help them reach their goal.

Another difference is that we provide a lot of free benefits to people who work with us, such as:
● a personal manager who is available almost all the time and is capable of solving many things;
● technical lead in helping the developer if they face any extraordinary issues
● QA engineer to get the highest quality product
● direct communication with the developer/team

Moreover, we always aim our employees to improve their skills. Continuous learning is what all our teammates get, and of course, it is good for our clients as well. Our team regularly learn new technologies, pass internal tests, visit technical meetups and conferences, pass certifications and more.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
We’ve been working with representatives of different industries, such as education, medicine and healthcare, beauty industry, gambling, sports, travel industry, startups, trucking and so on. We’re always open to new experience, and even if some new industry projects come up, we do it.
Yes, of course, our customers are repetitive, we have a lot of clients who are working with us for the second or third time. I’d say that at least 50% of our clients come back to us to modify the initial project or develop another one.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
The mobile applications market is overloaded already and it’s very important for our clients to meet the needs of their users. The functionality of the app is a significant thing in terms of attracting users. So, the most important thing in determining the time frame is the functionality, which is basically dictated by the market.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
The average time for development is two months, though it highly depends on the client’s requirements and goal.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
First of all, it is the client’s requirement. Most clients already know which platform they want to store their application in. If no, we analyze the market. Key parameters are the industry the client and the app relate to and the number of similar apps on each platform. We will use the platform which has less similar apps in the first place.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
So as described in the previous question, we research the market in the first place, after that we make suggestions. Though, according to our previous experience storing the app on Android is a little bit faster as iOS has quite many restrictions which should be taken into account before storing the app. So if the client wants to make it faster, we should begin with Android.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
We use Hybrid technologies for mobile application development. In our opinion this is the best solution for our client for several reasons:
- The speed of development is higher.
- We develop one application and can use it for both platforms (iOS and Android).
- Hybrid apps are more manageable for clients to support after development.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
Key factors are the development time and the amount of required capacity. Plus, developer skills and the complexity of the project, etc. We have a special analytics department in our company which is considering all the factors and deciding on the price.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We are flexible in terms of payment structure. It could be hourly payment as well as fixed cost. We discuss the payment terms with each client and choose the best solution for both sides.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Yes. We’ve been working with startups and know that sometimes the client needs something small at first before thinking of expanding in the future. The minimum requirement is $8000.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
If we’re talking only about Mobile apps, then it’s $8000 to $25000 in 2018.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
I will suggest starting with the MVP first. This is the cheapest and the fastest way to implement your idea. After launching an MVP, you will have many doors opening up for you, in terms of investments, users, clients. That will help gain knowledge to develop a full-fledged app and expand their functionalities.
Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
Sure! The visibility has increased so far; we’re getting more and more messages on our website. Thank you for your resource and your work! We can see that GoodFirms is growing and improving all the time and we wish you a lot of success!

This app is intended for people who learn languages. The administrator creates interactive lessons that are offered to users in the editor. The statistics are stored in a personal account, providing the ability to improve results at any time. There are several different types of lessons that allow the user to listen, remember, and make sentences and phrases, which are automatically checked by a grammatical parser. The project is not tied to a specific language – it all depends on the settings set by the administrator. A flexible classroom editor allows the administrator to create a unique lesson depending on the current requirements. Currently, the app occupies a niche in several Arab schools, where it helps children to learn both Arabic and the basics of English.

Dunice has exceeded our every expectation. Initially, we were concerned about the language difference, but Dunice has processes in place that facilitate exceptional communication. Dunice is also extremely flexible. For example, they have adapted to our preferred development process and joined our company Slack account. Their flexibility in adding staff arrangements is also especially helpful for us as our business grows at an unpredictable pace.

Review Summary

After working with several UI developers and hitting issues such as bad communication, poor quality code or even just simply disappearing, it was an absolute pleasure to find Dunice and their awesome team. They have communicated well through out, provided good quality code and pulled in the extra hours when deadlines needed to be met. We are now moving forward with them as part of our team long term and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

It's a real pleasure to work with such a professional, well-organized and motivated team. They are very persuasive in what they do, you can trust their experience, their mutual assistance - it's a real team what makes your work as a project manager much easier.
They always keep up to date with new technologies and solutions, don't stay on the same spot and permanently develop themselves and each other.
Also what is very important is a good vibe, positive atmosphere and very professional communication skills, what allows easy to reach agreements and to work more effectively, including a remote R&D group organization.
So I've got 2 years of only positive experience of working with the team!
