Agicent Technologies Pvt. ltd. Executive Interview

Sudeep Bhatnagar
CEO and Founder
Visit Profile
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
Agicent is a 9 years old app development company and we are the makers behind famous Apps like HASfit, Pregmo. We work across iOS, Android and web platforms and also create Artificial Intelligence loaded Apps.

I work as a business leader and chief solution consultant. Being the co-founder, I could wear any hat that came in my way; through now I focus largely on the business, clients, and the app solutions we create.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
The idea was and still is to be a software service company that is more focused on serving early-stage startups. A company which startups in the USA and Europe can hire with trust on quality, integrity, and professionalism.
What are your company’s business model–in-house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We’ve our own 45 people in-house team and we never outsource to anyone.
How is your business model beneficial from a value-added perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
Instead of pushing our customers to spend more, we encourage our startup customers to spend less on the first version of the app so that they can test the waters with least amount at stake and also in shortest time. Many times in a year, we offer free design services worth $2000 to qualified young startups in the USA. They can take these free designs to the investors to raise seed funds and come back to us for development. We believe in helping the ecosystem we’re in and it always returns manifold.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
We cater to all industries and majorly create B2C apps that the general public can use. We’ve created some awesome enterprise apps but their ratio is lesser compared to B2C nature apps. There are some customers with whom we’ve been working for more than 8 years. While from last 3 years, we have 95 % business clients which are repetitive.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
- Definition of the functional requirements – The more the things are defined, the quicker they can be done.
- Acceptance & Testing criteria – The earlier we define and keep updating the criteria of acceptance for the application, the better focussed the developer can be in rolling out best software piece in one hit.
- Feasibility study – It is always helpful to create a PoC of a complex feature even before starting the project to ensure.
- Team Allocation strategy as per the business plan/ launch plan.
- Contingency planning – What in case a delay is unavoidable due to any bad thing during the project. Assigning a backup developer, weekly project releases and teamwork.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
It all depends upon the features that are needed to be built. We have created a mobile app cost calculator tool to determine time and cost needed to build your app idea.
However, on an average, a normal mobile app would take not more than 8 weeks to get developed from the front end and the backend would be developed in parallel and may take 3 additional weeks. So total 11 weeks for an average mobile app.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
- Location and demographics you’re targeting and the mobile platform usage stats. (OS market share).
- Target market’s income group.
- The niche of the industry being targeted.
- Feasibility of features on platforms (Sometimes what works on android can’t be created on iOS because of Apple’s closed ecosystem).
- Third-party device integration requirement.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
Depending upon the location they target we can suggest them either iOS or Android. For example, a startup wanting to create an app for music artists in the USA should better go for iOS platform first while a startup launching a mobile bill analyzer app in India should target the Android first.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
- Go native if higher performance is the criteria and you can spend a little extra for that. Also, if you’d be fine keeping two separate codes for the front ends while backend stays as one.
- Go native for sure, if your product is fresh and you can do so on one platform at first and extend to another only after gaining some traction.
- Go native if your app heavily uses device’s resources like GPS, accelerometer, and offline capabilities.

- Go hybrid if you want to cover all platforms at once, and ain’t much fussy about the performance. Also, if you already have the app existing in form of web app or iOS or Android App. Since users already use your app, they might not mind a hybrid app.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
- The platform you want to target.
- Whether the app is only online or both online and offline.
- Number of features and their interoperability.
- Number of Screens, or dynamic screens.
- The complexity of the functionality.
- Level of quality and polishing you want on the app.
- Complexity, the size of the backend in terms of logic and its processes.
- Graphics quality level, Animations and special effects are more costly.
- Integration of AI capabilities (Artificial Intelligence).
- The depth of integration with third-party APIs.
- Location of the developer as offshore developers is much cost effective.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
9 out of 10 times, it is fixed cost divided into several delivery and payment milestones.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
We mostly consider the quality of the app idea and seriousness of the clients towards that idea as a prime factor in deciding whether to take the project or not, there is no monetary threshold at all.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
The minimum price of the project was $6400 and the maximum price of the project was $35000
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
It all depends upon the app product. If it is a B2C product then it is never good to ask money from general public, so either generate money via ads or as a cut of the transactions (if it is an E-commerce/ ordering app) or maybe money for a sponsored content. Basically, you can generate money only for the features that are of any business value for the customer else you better stick to ads.
