I, TapeshBhargava, the Founder of Alphonic Network Solutions. Being a technical person, and interested in technologies, I help the team in research and analysis of projects, solving out the complexity of any projects based on any technology. Our mission is to be the most trustable and reliable company out there, we work to be the best in what we do. We work to ensure each client, irrespective of the budget and size is treated as the top priority. Our sole mission is to provide solutions that bring value and profitability to your business.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
I was working as a Research Analyst with IIT Bombay. There, I conceived the idea to start my own business, a service-based company that can help businesses/Startups grow. we started our business as a digital marketing and technology consultancy company. During this phase, when we connected to multiple SME companies and Startups, most people were not able to get the product as per their demands. The companies who were working with startups on hourly-based projects did not spend time with the founders to understand their business model and ideas. They were not able to get viable projects, and thus, they failed. Since the beginning, our main focus has been startups who have a limited budget and require viable products.We start consulting them with best technology for their product.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We are a service-based company concentrating only on in-house projects and we don’t believe in outsourcing. Our team consists of 40+ talented engineers, analysts, project managers, designers, and developers. If we can’t work on any specific technology, we suggest the clients work with one of our sister consulting companies that work on the same technologies. We develop a relationship based on trust with our clients with our service and integrity.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
Our primary concern is to understand the client’s business model and the need for a particular business for its target market. We execute detailed market analysis and suggest our clients’ right tactics based on market research which may help them in deciding their business goals. We follow a life-cycle based process which always helps the client to understand how things work and where they need to focus on creating a strategy. Our motive is to provide our clients with the right value for their investment. We provide excellent communication, support and management after the deployment of the project and build trust with our customers even after their product is rolled out in the market.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
We specialize in web and mobile app development. We work on Native apps for Android and iOS, and full-stack/Mean stack technologies. Our focused industries are Health and Fitness, Food, Security, On-demand apps, market palace, etc. If I talk about customer repetition, then our maximum businesses are from our existing customers and their referrals. We have around 65-70% repetitive clients, and we always believe in making long-term business relationships with our customers.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
Determining the time-frame of developing a mobile app always depends on how well is the project scope defined. The better the project scope more is the clearance on the timeline. Defining the time frame requires focus on many aspects like the targeted audiences, major focus areas, functionalities needed, third-party integration required, design views, etc.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
As we mentioned before, this is hard to estimate without knowing the project’s complete scope. Whenever we develop a mobile application, it needs almost equal efforts in front-end & back-end (web services and admin panel). So, we can say that the backend needs more time as compared to the frontend. But for some apps, not much work is required on the backend. In such cases, we spend more time on the frontend needs. Usually, any app development work requires around 2-3 months for designing, development, testing to deployment.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
As per my understanding, selecting the right platform always depends on the user's geographic location, devices they are using, end-users’ requirements and scalability of the applications among other things. There are also budget constraints to consider and iOS apps are more expensive as compared to Android. Thus, most clients start their MVP with Android. Android has less binding of using third-party services, libraries, and SDK as compared to iOS. So platform-wise, we start with an Android app and if the client has a good budget, then we can go with iOS too.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
If the client has a good budget, then I would ask them to go for both platforms. Because, if they are targeting the whole world, the Asian market has more Android users while the USA and Europe market has more iOS users as per statistics. Then, it's up to the client what they decide to go with.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
If you want to provide your users with the best experience in terms of performance, UI/UX, and fast turnaround, you should go with Native app development. For native applications, we use Java/Android Studio for Android apps and Swift/Objective C/Xcode for iOS apps. Native apps are better compared to hybrid apps. Investment on Native apps is expensive as compared to the hybrid app but it’s worth it. They work swiftly and smoothly and are easy to customize as per customer needs while it's not easy to customize hybrid products.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
The cost of the mobile application depends on many factors. Whenever we develop any mobile application, it has to go through multiple phases such as Project Analysis, Project Planning, Wireframing& documentation, designing, development (backend and frontend), quality analysis/testing, and deployment. If the clients have only their business ideas, we have to go through every step mentioned above and a complete team comprising of business analyst, project manager, designers, developers, and QA/tester are required from the start to end, i.e., till the deployment of the project. So, the cost of a mobile app depends on the resources and the time required for the development of the app.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We have three types of engagement models:
a) Fixed cost model: If the client has fixed requirements and has a small or mid-sized project with a very clear understanding, then the fixed-cost model will suit. In this model, we analyze the requirements and give a fixed cost. This model is preferred for small enterprises. All the aspects of the design and development process, project management, design, quality analysis, and deployment are taken care of by us.
b) Hourly Model: This model is best suited for those startups or enterprises who have already developed projects but have fixes/errors in that. Also, if they want to start a new project and are not aware of how long will the project take, this model is best suitable to them. They will be provided experts based on the number of hours required, and they can directly communicate with the expert and explain their requirements. Also, if they want any changes in the requirements during the project development, this model works best.
c) Dedicated developers model: This model will suit the enterprises who want to develop their own mobile applications and don’t have much time. They can hire dedicated experts like the designer, developers (Android and iOS or Web), QA, and Project Manager. They just need to communicate with the Project Manager to get regular updates, and the manager takes care of the rest.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
There are no minimum specific requirements we work on. Our clients are a mixture of startups and enterprise-level businesses. The budget depends on client project requirements, and we always try to provide the best reasonable budget for our clients. Still, if we have to specify the minimum budget to work on app development, it is approximately US$4000-US$5000. We are open to discussing it further.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
The minimum was around US$3000, and the maximum was US$50000. Also, we help startups and always try to meet their budgets. Still, it will depend on their business/project requirements.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
It depends on clients’ business requirements or which type of customers they want to cater to. It is very important to understand customer needs and work according to that. From the revenue perspective, there are a variety of apps that can be developed like picture editing, social media communication apps, which fulfill users’ needs. Ads implementation can be done in free apps, whereas the subscription model is also in demand if the customers are using the app in their daily lives.
