Client’s Name:

The SequenceBase Corporation is one of the leaders in providing patent sequence information to the biotechnology, legal, pharmaceutical, scientific, technical and academic bioinformatics communities.

The Challenge:

Intellectual property experts state that about 80% of the information published in a patent document is not available anywhere else.

For a long time, biotech companies, pharmaceutical, academia and law firms had been expressing the need for the reliable and simple way to discover IP sequence information across disparate resources.

The Solution:

Azati team successfully tackled the challenge by developing and maintaining the online IP Research Portal with easy-to-use, readily accessible content, search, analysis, and reporting tools.

As a first step, a new product was developed to cover all available genetic sequences from the published applications and issued patents of the USPTO dating back to 1982. Each database record contains a sequence and related data including organism name, sequence length and tables for modifications, and other features. Bibliographic and text search options are also provided.

As a second step, we developed SequenceBase® BLAST® Search Portal – a web-based access point for comprehensive patent sequence searching to handle various sequence databases.

The portal provides the ability to perform searches by the query sequences using one of the algorithms:  BLAST, Smith-Waterman, Multiple Sequence Search algorithm or MOTIF.

Client’s Name:

US national leader in professional liability insurance

The Challenge:

As a result of IT infrastructure growth over the recent years, different company departments developed different software tools, accumulating various kinds of policyholder and prospect customer data, causing this data to be spread across multiple non-related databases, with no reliable single source of customer information. The data collected from different sources had to be manually processed, synchronized, cleaned up from duplicates, in order to run marketing campaigns and generate pipeline and forecasting reports – all manually or semi-manually, in a non-transparent manner, taking sizable amount of time for data consolidation. The company realized the need to store and maintain the current and prospect customer data in one place, and have all departments use it as their only source of customer data.

The Solution:

The company developed long-term CRM strategy, involving all employees to use a CRM tool for any customer interaction, including direct contact and marketing campaigns. Azati was hired for CRM consulting, software development and system integration – and took part in requirements gathering, specification writing, and eventually developing and testing the CRM tool, importing the consolidated customer and prospect data and launching the CRM tool. The CRM tool itself was integrated with other company-wide software components, such as the policy management system and the document management system.

Diamond Contract Services

The Challenge:

To improve the quality of maintenance services the buildings the company works on are inspected by internal Quality Assurance team on a regular basis. The inspection results are collected manually in the check-list form, stored as XLS document and then further processed by operators in the office in order to obtain the performance reporting and other analytical metrics. The company realized the need to improve the quality assessment process and post-processing by using modern mobile technologies.

The Solution:

The company decided to have a complex solution developed for them aiming at improving the efficiency of the Quality Assurance team’s work. Azati was hired for requirements gathering, consulting and implementation work for the following two main parts of desired solution: a modern mobile multi-platform application and corporate internal web-based portal. The key feature of the mobile application was suppose to provide for Area Supervisors a functionality to perform inspections only inside the customer’s facility. Geo-fences of all customer’s buildings (450+) were configured in the corporate portal when mobile application has to track in real-time mode employee’s geolocation and advise by several criteria of nearest facilities/buildings that require inspections. The key feature of the corporate portal is to accumulate in real-time all the information coming from the mobile devices, handled by QA team members, to automatically process that data and to provide necessary level of reporting, statistics and flowcharts.

An Interior Design & Decorating Agency

The Challenge:

A request for a visualization of a room covered with new wallpapers appears very frequently. Currently, all the design agencies can do to satisfy this need is to present drawings and models of interior designs created with 3D rendering applications or other software tools. The main drawback of this approach is that it takes several days to prepare the final image.  Another option is to use applications, which enable to change only the confined set of prepared photos of the interiors. Both variants fail to deliver the level of performance the clients want.

The perfect solution implies utilizing instant modeling, which represented the main challenge due to its technical complexity.

The Solution:

Azati development team created a fast and easy-to-use application that works both on mobile phone and web browsers.

Artificial Intelligence methods analyze the photo in several stages to perform semantic segmentation of the room – the application recognizes the ceiling, floor, furnishings and decorations. Our algorithms distinguish even the small elements like pillars, wall niches, arches etc. To make the chosen wallpapers look natural on the result image, the algorithms also consider lightning, define depth and surfaces of walls.

There are many wallcovering options available – different colours, textures, and geometric patterns can be applied.

At the last step, the application replaces the existing wallcovering with a new choice, thus building a plausible model of a new room.

The Challenge:

There is a large flow of claims to the casualty insurance company, which are fraudulent. The insurance company spend a lot of money and time checking and working with such applications. The insurance company needed improved fraud detection and new innovative ways to mitigate risk.

The Solution:

We prepared a solution that can analyze the data of the processed claims and, based on this analysis, assess the new claims. Our company developed a system of machine learning and analysis, which is based on internal and external data.

The cognitive system processes huge amounts of data in a relatively short time, structuring the primary disparate information, revealing the connections between the imperceptible factors for the person, so the system can predict fraud by itself.

The cognitive system сan predict with high probability attempts to deceive in virtue of:

● permanent review of existing claims

● аbility to learn and take into account the corrections that a person makes

● сlear system of descriptions why a given claim looks fraudulent

Biotechnology Corporation

The Challenge:

Biological scientists, engaged in searching for complementarity determining regions (CDRs), fusion/chimeric constructs, recombinant plasmid constructs and bispecific antibodies, were in need of a reliable tool, which would enable search for multiple nucleotide (or protein) queries against the nucleotide (or protein) database. The challenge was risen due to the question of the project feasibility, as the tool for searching with several query sequences at that time hadn’t been introduced before.

The Solution:

Azati team designed, developed and released a general purpose Multiple Sequence Search (MSS) tool, than can accept and search on up to six query sequences.

The MSS tool can be used to find and list documents that contain CDR sequences of interest. Also, one may perform a simultaneous search on multiple CDRs contained within the same patent document, taking into consideration that the CDRs might be present in different claims. The tool uses our enhanced version of the Smith-Waterman algorithm in order to produce not only accurate and comprehensive results, but also do it in a considerably shorter time (30 to 50 times than the standard Smith-Waterman algorithm). The interface makes it easy to track and see whether there is one or more than one similar sequence that might have been claimed within a single document. An advanced scoring system was designed to assign a higher score to those documents that contain a greater number of CDRs matching the search query, which produces more relevant results.

Client’s Name:

Biotechnology Corporation

The Challenge:

One of the research teams of our client company is dedicated to working with primers, which are short strands of DNA/ RNA used in the polymerase chain reaction or hybridization. For biological sequence comparison the researches use BLAST algorithm.

The problem lies in the fact that the matches, significant to the query sequence, are often not found under the standard BLAST settings. Being a probability based algorithm, BLAST omits a considerable amount of sequences when conducting a sequence search with a short query sequence (less than 20 bases). The reason for this is that the significance threshold is set too stringently, and the default sequence length parameter is set too high. Thus, BLAST was failing to provide the necessary level of accuracy to the researchers.

The client was in need of BLAST algorithm customizations to gather more accurate results from searches with short query sequence.

The Solution:

By having strong technological skills and deep domain knowledge in bioinformatics, our development team elaborated the algorithm parameters and additional search filters, which specifically address the issues of the searches with short query sequences. The system was redesigned to automatically adjust these developments: the preset values on the search launch page help to provide optimum results.  Azati engineering team implemented the changes to the extensive BLAST algorithm code, thus making the system highly responsive to the client’s research needs.

Client’s Name:

One of the leading Biotechnology Company in providing searchable access to all available peptide and nucleotide sequences from multiple databases.

The Challenge:

The client company uses a dynamic programming Smith-Waterman algorithm, which is known for producing complete local alignment matches between the query sequence and the existing database sequences. The comprehensiveness of the search results is much appreciated, especially by those conducting prior art searches.

But the searches performed by the algorithm, particularly those containing a relatively long query sequence, may be frustratingly slow and took hours to get finished. Using the Smith-Waterman algorithm meant that you sacrifice your time for the accuracy of the results.

The Solution:

The advancement of cloud and GPU computing, in combination with further improvements to the specialized genetic alignment search technology developed by Azati, allowed our engineering team to reduce the time needed to run the Smith-Waterman queries by 30-50 times. Therefore, the implemented changes made the inordinate delays associated with running excessively long Smith-Waterman queries a thing of a past for our client.
