Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
We started Cumulations with a goal to provide exceptional software solutions to our customers. Cumulations is a Mobile apps and IoT solutions development company where we co-create with our customers adding value to their business. Some of the sectors we work are multimedia, home automation, Smart lighting, healthcare, vehicle tracking and energy. At Cumulations, I take care of delivery and day-to-day operations. Apart from that I do research on market and try to find out the ways of growing us by helping other industries and peoples and giving them the best solutions.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
We always wanted to get things together and make it accessible to everyone using it. When we started, we built social apps getting people and information together. Till date we are working towards getting things together and make them easily accessible - be it connecting healthcare partners with patients, content-creators with content-consumers, energy-generators with energy-sellers.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We work on 2 business models. First is fixed estimate development projects and second one is offshore development team working on time and material basis.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
We at Cumulations don’t believe in delivering junk and just keep building things which would end up not being used at all. Hence we make sure we co-create with our customers building solutions which would add real value to their business.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
Some of the industries we cater are - Multimedia, Healthcare, Home automation, Vehicle tracking, Lighting and Energy are some of our sectors. Nearly three fourth of our customers are repetitive because we make sure whatever we build is of great value to their business.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
The scope of work, number of platforms to be developed and clarity of requirements would determine the time frame. It wouldn’t make sense to build too many things at once which would make it very difficult to test so that quality can be ensured. We recommend a phase wise development approach.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
It depends on the features and amount of work required to build those features. So it is relative. However what we can do is that we could build frontend and backend in parallel by planning the team resources and tools effectively.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
The key parameter would be the target audience i.e who would be using the app. If its a B2C app, it is mostly driven by your geography’s customer base and if its B2B, its driven by your clients devices.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
Well this depends on where they are coming from. If they are from western world, it makes sense to build iOS first as that is where most of the customer base is. So it is best to know where your customers are and what they are using.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
If it’s a B2C app, it would make more sense to build native apps to make sure the current day UX standards could be maintained. However, you could choose to build part of the apps platform independent like how some of the popular apps like Airbnb, Myntra etc...does. However if its a B2B app where a specific set of audience use the apps, platform independent could be a right option.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
Effort required and the UI/UX experience determines the cost of development. Also if the app requires any advanced technology like AI/ML, it will add up quite a bit as the talent in this space is expensive.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
There are multiple models. Fixed cost if the requirements are clear with payments made after every milestone, typically split across 3-4 milestones. In offshore development team model, per developer charges would be applicable for every month. Sprints would be defined for each month to achieve the required goals.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
We believe in taking up project which have long term plan, not just vision. Even if the project starts small (PoC) but has the potential to become big, we don’t mind.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2017?
Minimum price was $10K and maximum was $20K.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
We suggest fixed estimate model for start-ups and achieve the required goals. For enterprises where generally the requirement keeps changing, we suggest time and material model.
