Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the organization.
Curated Soft is a Vancouver-based Software Development agency that is focused on tech start-ups, and operates in a boutique fashion. We only work with a limited number of projects at a time, maintaining customer service at the highest possible levels. My role is a CEO, as well as I participate in every project, giving it the curated touch it needs.
What is the story behind starting this company?
This is my second company, and it was created based on my discovery during my work as a Business Development Coach for a software development agency based in Eastern Europe that wanted to enter the North American market. I have discovered that many start-ups don’t have access to the technical and business resources they need to grow due to financial constraints. That is why I have partnered with my past client from Easter Europe to bring that expertise and quality at a reasonable price.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We have a mixed model – some members of our team are in-house (management, project support), and most of the technical resources are outsourced to our partner company.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
Due to our lean operation model, focus on customer service, and our experience in business coaching and start-up mentoring, we offer a unique approach and value add to our clients. Many of our clients call us “fractional technical cofounders” or “fractional CTO” for that reason – we get very involved in the startup, and we stay with them long-term.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
Rather than the industry, we cater to early-stage start-ups. Typically at the Friends and Family, Pre-seed or Seed round.
Please share some of the services that you offer for which clients approach you the most for?
Web development, Mobile app development.
What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer’s needs and requirements?
As we provide a boutique approach to our customers, we make sure that 100% of our clients are happy at the end of the project. So far, we were able to get positive testimonials and 5-star ratings, repeat work, and referrals from all of our customers.
What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
We use Slack for instant messaging communication, and we also hold weekly project update calls with clients. All clients have unlimited access to their dedicated account executive.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
Our most common payment structure is Pay per Milestone, where milestones sometimes become development sprints. At the end of each sprint, we demonstrate all of the progress we have made so far and send an invoice only once approved.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
We understand the nature of start-up businesses and are willing to work with them. We have worked on projects that are as small as $10,000, and at times made our own investments in the clients’ projects.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2022?
Min = $10000, Max=$150000
Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?
We are a young company, and hence growing quite aggressively. That is not our goal though – we plan to be a go-to agency for early-stage start-ups across Canada and the US.
