Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
Digiryte is a multi-award winning web and mobile development firm, specializing in providing bespoke software development services to startups, scaleups, and enterprises in a wide range of sectors. Digiryte houses a high caliber team of talented engineers with previous experience working for companies like Amazon, IBM, Accenture, PayPal, and more, capable of working a number of domains, including AI, machine learning, IoT, and blockchain. As MD, I overlook the daily operations from our Manchester office.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
The initial development team was put together out of necessity to assist with our own MedTech startup, which we struggled to find the right technical partner for. Because of the success we had, we decided to fill a gap in the market and created Digiryte, to build the right solutions, within the right time frame, for the right price.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Digiryte has a unique dual-shore model that allows us to take advantage of the larger off-shore talent pools while maintaining our stringent quality standards and still being able to offer lower than market rates. We do not outsource, and all our engineers are directly employed by the company, ensuring full control over all processes and delivery. This allows our clients to work with a UK company, during UK business hours, reachable on UK phone lines.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
We found good local development teams to be scarce, and often very expensive. On the other hand, offshore teams always posed a higher risk factor, and often time, and communication gaps made the process more difficult. With our model, we ensured we tackle these issues and provide a service that allows our clients to take advantage of both worlds without the usual concerns.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
One of the main factors leading to our growth is repetitive clients, who continue to work with us long term once they experience what we have to offer. This is particularly advantageous for tech startups who prefer to stick with the same team from initial MVP to scaling up provided the expertise and structure are in place to assist with the growth.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
  • The amount of work required. Our costs are always based on effort estimates and not just a random number that sounds about right
  • The different platforms and screen sixes the application needs to be compatible with.
  • Any third party plugins, integrations, licenses required
  • Clarity of scope of work provided by the client, as extensive-time required in discovery can lead to longer time frames
  • Team availability. We have a good size team, but we do stay busy, so we will only take on projects we are able to deliver
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
This is very largely dependent on the project requirements and the chosen tech stack. For example, in some instances, the vast majority of work is for the frontend, where we can utilize frameworks like React Native and Flutter to create great-looking applications, but backend processes are minimal, which can be addressed using Firebase. This eliminates the need for any separate dedicated server/database framework and improves the turnaround time.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
  • Firstly, the target audience has to be kept in mind. Depending on the nature of the app and the geographic location of the user, the recommended platform would differ.
  • Secondly, the features and complexity will determine if an application has to be built natively, or a cross-platform framework like Flutter would be a more viable option.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
Again, this is dependent on the target market and its demographics. For example, eastern markets tend to have much larger user bases for Android apps, while some of the western markets have a preference to iOS. One of the reasons a majority of our apps are built-in cross-platform frameworks like React Native and Flutter is to be able to build them for both platforms from a single code base, keeping both the cost and development time minimal while still allowing access to a larger audience.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
Again, this is dependent on the target audience and business strategy. For example, if a client already has an existing website, and he wants the end-user to have the same look and feel in the mobile application, Cordova or Ionic may be a good option. Or if the customer wants to build his business from scratch and wants to target both Android iOS, a cross-platform application development framework like React Native or Flutter may suit better. Alternatively, if the application uses more hardware resources and is performance heavy, then it is advised to go with native development. Also, before choosing a development framework, we recommend that we choose a development methodology and then choose a framework that works well with it. For example, if the client wants to go live as fast as possible, it’s usually better to go with Rapid Application Development, and in such cases Flutter will augment well with RAD because it uses a single code base to develop both Android and iOS versions of the application along with rich UI and extensive support for animations. More than that, it has proven to reduce the development timeline by a huge margin than other frameworks courtesy of a few excellent development tools like hot reload/hot restart and debugger. So even though there is no set recommendation for every project, cross-platform development with Flutter tends to be the more popular choice at the moment.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
Our costing methodology is very straight forward, and we base it on the effort estimates deduced from the project requirements. We estimate the total number of man-hours it would take for each resource type and multiply that by the day rate. We offer developments both on a fixed fee basis, as well as on a time and material basis at a lower rate, so clients have the ability to work with us on an approach that suits them best. For larger projects, we offer staff augmentation as well, allowing our clients to manage their own teams and reduce costs.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We offer fixed fees and time and material models and are quite flexible with our payment structure, allowing clients to spread them on a monthly or milestone basis if they prefer.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
To ensure we can follow our set processes and deliver to our set standard, we generally only consider projects with a budget of over £10K.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2019?
Our client base is quite broad, so we’ve had projects ranging from £25K to over £1M.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
Revenue models can vary substantially based on the business model of the product. There is no set revenue model that works for all, and the revenue strategies usually change as the product scales. We generally find the most commonly employed revenue models within startups to include freemium, subscription models, click-based models, downloadable content, and advertisements.
Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
GoodFirms seems to be a good avenue for Digiryte to showcase its expertise and allow its clients to share their true experience of working with us. We feel the platform has great potential and can help us increase our visibility further.

Review Summary

As a partner in a growing financial consulting services firm, we were in need of cloud capabilities with mobile access. We were recommended to hire Digiryte by one of our clients who had a great experience with them. We had a couple of meetings to hash out the details and we hired them to help us with planning and implementation of these capabilities.

The PM set forth all the details in the engagement letter and stuck to the plan. The management of this project was handled well and the staff was very capable technically. The project went on seamlessly and any issues that arose were dealt with very professionally. As the project owner for my firm, my experience with Digiryte was better than I have had with bigger tech consulting/Big 4 firms.

The project has come to a completion. If anything ever arises, the PM is one call away and they handle the situation very well. I really appreciate the customer service aspect of their management and recommend them for any size projects.

What service was provided as part of the project?

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

Customer service, technical capabilities, and clarity on project timeline/challenges.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

Overall, nothing major enough to mention.
