  • Services provided: Staff Augmentation, Legacy Modernization
  • Team composition: 2 software engineers

  • Results: Migration of 16 services in 12 months

DETAILS

About the client:

Our client is the largest independent telecom network provider in Germany, offering a range of telecommunication, broadband, web, media, and TV services to its growing base of 8.3 million subscribers.

Challenge:

The Client recognized the need to upgrade its legacy codebases. The original systems were built on Java 6 and Jboss (WildFly) application servers which no longer met its business needs. Edvantis engineers familiar with the Spring Boot framework, Java 11, and mono and flux libraries were selected for the project.

Solutions:

The Edvantis team migrated and fully ported 16 legacy services to the new infrastructure in just 12 months. Our main goal during migration was to preserve the business logic for all the applications to avoid any operational disruptions.

In terms of legacy modernization, our engineering team:

  • Performed code refactoring and improved its quality within the newer Java 11 version
  • Upgraded legacy libraries using Spring Boot features
  • Used a reactive approach to IT system modernization and helped the client migrate to a future-proofed microservices architecture, built on Java 11

As part of QA services, we delivered:

  • Code coverage reports that verified if the migrated biz-logic was fully covered by tests
  • Integration testing to ensure there were no new bugs in the migrated code
  • Static code analysis to double-check that the code is clean and ready to be deployed.

About the client:

Kardex Remstar is one of the largest suppliers of automated storage solutions and a global partner in intralogistics solutions.

Challenge:

As part of their new product development project, Kardex Remstar sought a technology vendor to clarify requirements and structure them in a project document. Edvantis was selected to conduct a discovery phase.

Solution:

Edvantis assigned five people to analyze the scope of the work and obtain additional information from the client's internal teams. During a series of 3 to 4-hour remote workshops, we reviewed previous version demos, gathered project details, and analyzed stakeholder expectations. Based on the workshops, Edvantis established a clear mind map of requirements and sent a written document outlining the outcome.

Results:

As a result of our fast and proactive discovery process, Kardex Remstar received a well-structured and well-defined project requirements document. The company attempted to engage another company for the same task, but the vendor failed to initiate the discovery process.

Describe your project in brief

Edvantis helped with aggregating and maintaining content for the client's website to provide the most accurate information to the client's users as possible. Edvantis learned several technical and analytical skills specific to the client's tools and engine and their responsibilities evolved over the years to work on critical, time senstive projects.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

Edvantis has an incredibly dedicated team of employees with very little turnover, even over fifteen years with us. They are great with communication and availability. They are some of the most responsible people I have ever worked with and show eagerness to learn and grow always.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

I have not experienced any cons with Edvantis. Perhaps their would be a new hire that was not always cut out for the task, but they would be quick to recognize this on their side and make efforts to replace them before we would even need to say something.
