Visit Profile
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
  • My primary responsibilities include making major corporate decisions, managing the overall operations and resources of a company, acting as the main point of communication between the board of directors and corporate activities, and being the public face of the company.
  • HUSPI is a software development service provider with a full-cycle product development capabilities. We’re not a large company, but we take every single client and employee of ours very seriously. This is the reason every client came back to us with more tasks or recommended us to their friends. We strive to be like the business lass in an airplane, and we value quality over quantity.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
  • HUSPI started as business processes optimisation consulting company. Besides a strong technical background, we also have several team members with a Ph.D. in computer science, which helps us to approach challenges more comprehensively. Real optimisation is practically impossible without IT solutions.
  • Still, third-party software vendors are often far from understanding the precise needs of our clients’ business, which complicates the integration and, as a result, greatly inflates the overall budget of the project. Therefore, in 2015, we decided to combine consulting and development, which resulted in client-tailored software solutions with precise and controlled budgets.
What is your company’s business model – in-house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
HUSPI provides the full cycle of product development services to the clients. For that purpose, we have an in-house team of backend and frontend developers, QA engineers, and project managers.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
The project budgets are precise and clear because the development process is supervised by business consultants with an advanced technical background. As a
result, this approach helps to save time as well as the client’s money. The quality of
the products we develop for our clients is also of utmost importance for us. Therefore, we work with our in-house development team to make sure everything goes right, and our clients receive the product that meets and exceeds their expectations.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive?
  • The primary industries HUSPI caters to are FinTech, MedTech, and Retail/E-commerce. Our portfolio includes such projects as the creation of an ecosystem for a large bank, development of a high-load payment system from scratch, integrating IoT into a healthcare database and building a significant data analytics feature for it, and many others. We’ve had a handful of projects from other industries as well.
  • Practically all our clients come back to us with more development tasks, recommended us to their business friends, and a few have become our partners.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing software.
There are several factors that we take into account when we need to evaluate the time the project would require for development:
  • Our previous experience with similar projects
  • The level of detailing in the project’s technical specification
  • The experience with chosen frameworks
  • The number of integrations with third-party services and products
  • We also sum up the development time frames for each feature (and page)
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of software?
The distribution of backend/frontend work depends on the overall purpose of the product. If it is a client-oriented platform (for example, an e-commerce project), then 60%-70% is frontend work. In case the project is more focused on system development (for example, a product, where the end-user doesn’t get to interact with the software part of the project, and there is an admin panel for the system managers), then most of the time - 60%-70% - goes into the backend and system integration.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right framework for developing software?
When we need to choose the framework for a new project, we consider several factors:
  • Our previous experience with similar projects (re-using the same tools allows to minimise budgets and time required for development)
  • Technical specifications presented by our client (in case they have a specific language requirement)
  • The primary purpose of the system (whether it’s a mobile app or a web platform or an entire ecosystem)
  • The product’s architecture (database complexity and system components interoperability)
  • Expected load (the forecasted/expected number of users accessing the project simultaneously)
  • Third-party products’ integration requirements
Which languages & frameworks do you prefer to use in the development of software?
  • Our primary development language is JavaScript, and we often use the frameworks & libraries based on JavaScript, such as React, React Native, Angular, Node, Ionic, and others. We also have .NET in our stack.
  • For AI/ML projects, we use Python, TensorFlow, Keras, Google Cloud Platform, and Docker.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of the software?
The cost of software development is based on the amount of time spent by each of the team members that are involved with the project (designers, developers, QA engineers, etc.)
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients?
We are flexible in terms of payment structures because we have clients with different kinds of projects.
  • Most of the time, we work according to the Time & Material payment structure. Once the project has been estimated, each of the tasks and features gets approximate hours that it needs for development. Time & Material clients are charged monthly for the work done within that month.
  • We also work with Fixed Price projects. In this case, there is a prepayment for the work to be done, and then the rest is divided into parts (various in time, depending on the project’s duration.)
Do you take in projects which meet your essential budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Most of the time, we work with our constant clients and not as a traditional outsourcing company, which is why we don’t have a strict minimum monthly budget for them. If our existing client comes to us with development tasks, we’ll start working with them. However, if it’s a new client, and we are just beginning the project, then the minimum budget requirement is $8,000.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
In 2018, the largest project we have worked on (and continue to work with) amounted to over $250,000. In terms of the smallest projects, it was around $9,000. (This does not count in the tasks from existing clients since their budgets aren’t tied to the minimum price tags.)
Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
GoodFirms has been a great addition to HUSPI’s online presence. We have a lot of
visitors from GoodFirms as well as a few clients. We have been a member for a

Art, Entertainment & Music

HeForShe Arts Week 2020 celebrates their achievements and contribution to art across 110 years of Ukrainian history. We've created a dedicated AR mobile app for UN Women and HeForShe initiative.

Strategy

UN Women in conjunction with HeForShe needed an AR gallery of works of contemporary Ukrainian women artists (1909 - 2019) in a mobile app. HeForShe Ambassadors in Ukraine Michael Shur and Yaroslava Kravchenko (Telebachennya Toronto) open doors to the AR experience, where users can see, hear and even touch the works of the most acclaimed and more obscure female artists.

Execution

HUSPI’s role was to create the mobile app from scratch with AR features. The project was under strict deadlines due to the event’s scheduled date. We’ve worked closely with the UN Women and HeForShe team to take pictures of the artwork, integrate video of the speakers, and publish the app on the Apple app store just in time (which also was perfect just before the COVID-19 quarantine measures came into force.)

Outcome

We have used Unity 3D for the development of the app. The app is available for download from the app stores:

Healthcare & Medical

REHA STIM Medtec project is a software gaming system aimed at speeding up the rehabilitation process in patients with cognitive impairment. The main users of the rehab system are stroke patients. The secondary users are therapists who administer the system, add users, set the games and processes up and run reports.

Since it is a gaming platform, we opted for development using Unity 3D and C#.

Another interesting technical challenge for us in this project was the fact that the games had to be controlled using special Bi-Manu Trainer gloves. Special sensors installed in them can track patient's movements and therapists can understand how to tailor the rehab program to a particular person's needs. Therefore, the project was part-IoT due to the gloves' sensors integration.

Our primary task was to develop a set of eight games according to the technical requirements presented by our client. Since, as we mentioned above, the main users are people with cognitive impairment, we had to pay special attention to the user interface and experience.

It had to be light, not overloaded with information, and it always had to provide ample descriptions as to what to do next. The games are connected to the reporting system and track user actions to see whether the patient's mental health is improving.

YouRehab is a special mobile application developed to visualize the data of patients' rehabilitation processes. It is connected to a special game's database and the admin can create a report with charts for each patient with an appropriate combination of games.

Strategy

The doctors need to utilize all kinds of information they can get about the patient's health in order to help. YouRehab is such a tool where the patient's actions in the game are accumulated in a database and passed along for further analysis by a doctor.

Execution

In this project, HUSPI needed to create a cross-platform mobile app with a secure database connection. For these tasks, we have used Xamarin (Android, iOS, and UWP) for mobile development and MySQL and C# for database integration.

Outcome

The project is currently under development, but it is promised to be quite helpful in terms of MedTech. Stay in touch to see the updates.

Information Technology

NeuralSolution is a company with the patent-pending technology able to extract a wide range of biometric readings from sensors, which helps to monitor and model the neural patterns.

NeuralSolution approached the HUSPI team with the need to develop and implement the architecture of the project. Considering the vast amount of incoming data, we needed to set up complex processes to analyze the streaming data, transform it into specific characteristics and send this processed data to a light bulb that would change color according to the emotion experienced.

We also needed to create a dashboard for patients and doctors, where they can see recorded videos of themselves for further work.

The project's sensors are non-invasive, which means that all data is coming from video files and biometric parameters. Specially developed light bulb receives the parameters about emotions in real-time and its color reflects the state of the person's nervous system.

Therefore, there were several tasks before HUSPI:

  • Create the architecture and think through all the data processing, storage, and analysis rules in order to avoid crashes and mislabeling
  • Develop the dashboard with the incoming data
  • Create separate user permission rights for doctors, administrative personnel, and users
  • Create all light bulb settings and integrate it with the dashboard's backend

For these tasks, we have used the following technologies: React, Redux, Core UI, Node.js, Noble, PostgreSQL.

This technology helps to accurately translate physiological information into useful for business metrics: engagement, attention, stress, sentiment, connectedness, etc.

Family Business Network (FBN) is an organization with a mission of offering a communication platform for business owners. The project the HUSPI team worked on was a mobile application for a closed social network.

The primary task before us was to create a new way of communication for the closed network of company owners and their families.

We needed to create a cross-platform mobile app for communication as well as an admin panel for managing the mobile app.

While we were working on the main part of the mobile app, the requirements expanded to add another feature: the ability to close business deals within the app.

Having analyzed the requirements, HUSPI developers used the following technologies for development and DevOps support:

  • Ionic 2, Node.JS, REST Web API, HTML5, MySQL;
  • Docker, Apache Tomcat, TeamCity, CI, Linux Debian.

Review Summary

UN Women Ukraine, as a part of the HeForShe Arts Week 2020, sought to create a mobile app for an AR gallery of 14 different paintings to promote works of women artists within Ukraine and internationally. Huspi helped us develop this app (mobile application with using of the Unity AR Foundation, iOS ARKit SDK, Android AR Core SDK) with integrated video, audio and text guides for each artwork within two months. The launch was scheduled for early March 2020 and the most unexpected outcome was the ability to make the app available before the quarantine, which placed restrictions on offline activities, while the online gallery gained attention and appreciation among the audiences who were self-isolating.
