Founder & CEO, Impulsis

Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?

Our company specializes in non-standard eCommerce solutions, which are normally not available out-of-the-box or even impossible to be built on common eCommerce platforms. This might include special merchandise of complex structure, uncommon payment/delivery methods, unique graphic design or UI components, or all of these together.

I am a founder & CEO of Impulsis OU.

Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing an ecommerce website.

To provide estimates of the project duration, we consider the following parameters:
  • project technical complexity
  • available resources
  • experience of the developers

How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of an ecommerce website?

Mostly it depends on the project and its requirements. We had cases where the theme is quite simple, but back-end customization was 90% of efforts and vice versa. So, it’s individual from customer to customer.

What is your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/outsourcing?

We have a very experienced in-house team with which we have been working for 14 years. We don't use outsourcing services for any of our projects.

How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?

We provide an individual approach when executing each project with a clear organization of the work processes and well-established channels of communication with the customers. We respond quickly to your requests and offer solutions. We will provide a wide range of services for your projects, such as the creation of project documentation, design, development, SEO, LiveOps.

What industries do you cater to? Are your clients repetitive?

We are working with quite a wide range of industries, from pet care to magic tricks.
But looking at our previous experience, most of our customers are from Entertainment, Gaming, and Retail industries.
Most of our customers are repetitive, and some of them stay with us for more than five years.

What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for an ecommerce website?

These are the following parameters by selecting the right eCommerce platform:
  • target audience size and composition (the need for complex analytics and segmentation)
  • the number and uniqueness of non-standard features required (customization/development complexity)
  • catalog size and structure complexity (database load, response speed)
Our main specialization is developing ecommerce websites with Magento, but we are also experienced in developing on other platforms like WooCommerce and Shopify.

Which platform do you suggest your clients, to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Magento, Shopify, Bigcommerce, etc.) and why?

Naturally, we suggest Magento, especially when it comes to “approaching us with an idea” - as in most cases, ideas involve something very special and/or unusual - and being versatile, open-source, and almost infinitely extendable/customizable, Magento sounds like a right choice.
Again, it all depends on customer needs. If this is an eCommerce project, we recommend Magento.

Which Content Management System do you prefer to use (Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc.)?

Magento has very basic built-in content management capabilities; that’s why we often integrate an external CMS into the shop. Our preferred choices are Wordpress (easy to integrate for us and easy to use for customers, while being powerful enough in terms of content management) and TYPO3 (it can be totally customized, has LTS versions, security is the key feature, and  it’s faster than WP. We have 14 years of experience with TYPO3 development). But with the release of M2 BlueFoot announced, there might be no need in external CMS anymore.

What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of an ecommerce website?

The key factors include the level of customization & integration with 3rd party service providers and deadlines - but it’s all called the scope of the project.

What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions, etc.)

We follow different payment structures, but our preference is the Time&Material model, as it gives more flexibility in budget planning and lowers the risk of cost overruns of development.

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?

We do not have any basic budget requirements, but our desirable e-commerce project budget starts from $10,000.

What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?

The minimum price of the project was $11000 and the maximum — $273000.

What do you think is the future of the ecommerce industry?

The mobile market is constantly growing, so the future is with platform-agnostic Progressive Web Apps.

Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
