Inclind is a web development agency based in Delaware that, just like the state, is small, but offers more than you would ever expect from our size. We are also well known for our strong collaborative capabilities. Our team has years of experience plugging in with agency creatives and marketing experts to make big, bold brands more fluid and profitable via open source digital experiences on Drupal, WordPress and Angular.

We’ve been developing, designing, supporting and maintaining web content management systems since 1999, so we’ve practically grown up with the web. And, today, we’ve grown to be known as the master builder of these open source digital experiences for a growing roster of national, regional and local clients in the real estate, travel, healthcare, nonprofit and higher education industries.

The Delaware Electric Cooperative (DEC) website was due for an update to improve the user experience and get more control over content layouts. This is the third time Inclind has provided website design and development services for the main DEC website.

In tandem with the website project, DEC wanted to create an app for its Beat the Peak program, an energy savings program where customers can scale back their electric use during peak hours to save money. The app would replace hardware indicators which would save the Co-op and its members money, while allowing for portability for members to remotely manage their electric use ahead of and during the peak hours.

Solution

Design & Functionality
The DEC website was a few years old and ready for a face-lift to reduce its aging appearance. Improvements in user experience for both desktop and mobile were key along with the goal of providing plenty of inroads into content that a visitor may be looking for. Allowing members to log into their accounts directly from the home page was high on the list of improvements as well as highlighting promotions, attracting new members and keeping current members in the loop on power outages and safety information

Better Page Layouts
DEC puts a lot of effort into marketing so we gave them the ability to create complex landing pages on the fly. The basic pages in the current website were content heavy, so elements were created to help make content more visually appealing and to provide a more consistent visual system. By using the atomic design approach, the designer worked with the front-end developer to move the design elements into Pattern Lab to establish a living reference of the visual system. The Gutenberg content editor was chosen to facilitate the layouts of pages with the new visual elements.

Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 Migration
Content was migrated from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 to take advantage of Drupal 8’s features and the ability for Drupal 8 to power the Beat the Peak app. Once the content was migrated, Inclind did a careful inventory of the existing content to streamline the site architecture. Page content was

App Development
Members of DEC’s Beat the Peak program had hardware indicators that lit up red for peak energy use hours, green for non-peak hours and yellow to indicate a pending peak. The indicators were costly to produce and distribute. With more and more smart homes being built in the market that DEC serves, it only made sense to transition out of using indicators and into using an app with push notifications to alert members of pending peaks or if they were in a peak. Members could then adjust their electric consumption accordingly and, if they had a smart home, having a mobile indicator allows them to manage their electric consumption on the fly from anywhere.

Project Outcome
The result is a whole new web and Beat the Peak experience for DEC members and gives the Co-op for opportunity to communicate and engage its audience. Jeremy Tucker, marketing manager for DEC and content manager for the website and is thrilled with the freedom he has with Gutenberg to create pages and edit in a more visual way.

American Councils for International Eduction (AC) recently created a new set of strategic goals, and brought in Threespot, a digital communications agency, for a website redesign. The goals of the project were to expand global impact, strengthen the AC brand, and build a stronger understanding of their work. Threespot partnered with Inclind, AC’s ongoing Drupal development partner, to implement the new design and upgrade the website's functionality.

To achieve the client’s goal of a flexible layout system, Inclind upgraded AC from Drupal 7 to 8. Drupal 8’s layout builder and paragraphs provided a recipe that could deliver that flexibility, allowing them to quickly change out a landing page for an upcoming campaign or announcement.

With Drupal’s migration framework, Inclind easily mapped and migrated existing content and pared 23 content types down to six on the new site, relying on paragraphs to facilitate the ability to add custom design features on multiple pages.

By taking a broad view of the entire network of web properties that encompasses AC, Threespot and Inclind connected the appropriate AC audience segment to the most relevant tier of information for its needs. Through an improved presentation of AC’s work, the new site better communicates who they are as a brand and as an organization.

The Beebe Healthcare enterpise website project included a design refresh, a migration of five websites both on Drupal and Wordpress into one Drupal 8 platform and a re-architecture of content and implementation of Gutenberg for more content creators to build visually interesting landing pages. The result is a patient-centered user experience that is optimized for speed and performance and provides content managers a more robust editing system with more control over page layouts.
