Improve the efficiency, availability, and security of IT infrastructure by migrating it to the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Within 12-month project 680 servers from the two primary Data Centers were migrated to the Microsoft Azure for a total of 2 000 users, 85 terminal servers were changed into the PaaS, Windows Virtual Desktop. Migration to Azure will enhance the IT infrastructure’s efficiency, availability, and security, make it more flexible and adaptable, speed up the deployment of new systems and services, and assure the continuity of business operations.

The migration project goals were to unify IT services of a group of companies in Italy, UK, Bulgaria, Switzerland, and United States to the target model of IT infrastructure, to enable increase in service management, reduce the cost of their operation and support, implement centralized toolset for information security management.

Previously, the companies in the group used different data storage and backup systems. Microsoft Azure provides the ability to develop, deploy and manage applications in the cloud, as well as store data on servers located in distributed data centers. In addition to savings, centralization of services will allow to further implement and standardize the provision of IT services in accordance with corporate standards.

As a result:

  1. 100% of servers transferred to a single domain and are aligned to the target architecture
  2. 680 servers and user credentials from the group’s companies in USA, Italy, UK, Bulgaria and Switzerland (1200 employees) were transferred to the Microsoft Azure cloud
  3. Ensured fault tolerance (availability) of services at the level of more than 99.95%
  4. Planned savings by reducing the cost of maintaining server equipment, backup and rental computing systems in alternative data centers will be about $ 150 thousand per year
  5. A unified information security management toolset has been implemented.

Increase the efficiency of end-user issues resolution for IT services with Micro Focus Service Manager: to consolidate data on IT-infrastructure health-status, the project used Micro Focus Service Manager (MFSM), which was integrated with Microsoft System Control Operation Manager (MS SCOM) and Microsoft Center Configuration Manager (MS MCCM), as well as PRTG Network Monitor to monitor network and provide unified platform. Integration with SAP systems via SAP Solution Manager and SAP GRC allowed all IT services data to be consolidated in one place. PowerBI has been used to create interactive dashboards and real-time data analytics for business. Users now have a clear and straightforward way to file a ticket and track its progress, company has unified platform for issues registration and processing till resolution, as a result client has increase in service availability, while case, ticket and incident resolution time decreased.
