Outstanding creativity and care for quality in challenging project
Review Summary
Our goal was to develop a new, modern front-end with modern UI/UX for the existing backend. The front-end should support the majority of existing use cases and be extensible. All implementation was to be open-source and documented for extension.
InDev designed a complete front-end + back-end solution of Node.js + SpringBoot with a REST-API. SpringBoot was chosen for compatibility with the Java legacy backend. The Node.js front-end implements browser-based modeling IDE with modeling canvas, programming environment, and simulation controls. Electron was chosen for packaging the entire solution into a single-click applications.

We gave InDev access to the legacy software and several high-level requirements and user stories for the new solution. The project overall had four deliverables: 1. concept (after 6 weeks), 2. front-end with basic back-end functionality (after 6 months, deliverable functionality was exceed), 3. front-end with extended back-end functionality (after 15 months), 4. fully working product (end of project). The implementation was conducted in sprints of variable length taking our own availability for testing and feedback into account. The requirements and the implementations were developed in an agile fashion. InDev made several proposals to improve requirements and showcased alternative solutions that went beyond the original requirements and led to a better product.
The solution delivered by InDev completely removed all complaints from users (students in undergraduate and graduate educations) about usability of the modeling and simulation tooling. The solution has been working flawlessly and without problems and is available as open-source product https://github.com/cpn-io/cpn-js
The product manages the delicate balance of enabling all relevant legacy functionality under a new, modern UI/UX flawlessly.
Communication was always clear and direct via email, Skype video conferences, and issue trackers. All interactions with the development team involved a product demo with a discussion of requirements and clear agreements for the next sprint. In sprints where integration with legacy functionality was required, project development communicated issues and problems clearly, allowing us to fix issues within the legacy environment early to ensure project success. Although fully resolving legacy issues led to delays in completing the final deliverable, InDev kept us up to date on the developments and issues, and InDev continued active development and problem solving until a fully functioning and documented product was delivered. InDev also synchronized the development speed with our own limited availability, to ensure we could properly test the current deliverables at all times.
We always had direct access to the lead developers. InDev managed the project with a very active attitude towards and understanding and solving our customer problems, providing creative solutions and ideas that go beyond the original solution design and requirements. InDev has eye for details and great care for UI/UX requirements, and determination to resolve hard to reproduce bugs and flaws in complex front-end/back-end architectures.

The team for fast and flexible development
Review Summary
They developed sustainable architecture for the software (that is proved now by the customers) and then regularly released new features according to our roadmap.
Moreover, they provided me flexibility and speed for unplanned features design, so I could easily react to customers' feedback.

Andrey, it is pleasure to work with you! Hope, we will do more projects.
