Multilingual Connections is a Chicago area translation agency that supports organizations looking to understand, engage & grow their multilingual audience. Our global team provides translation, transcription, transcreation, subtitling, and voiceover services in over 75 languages. I am the Founder & CEO of Multilingual Connections, I am passionate about building a great work environment for our team and I am proud of the impact our work has on the world.
What is the story behind starting this company?
After finishing my Ph.D. in linguistic anthropology, I worked as a corporate anthropologist and then oversaw Language and Culture Programs for Chipotle Mexican Grill. I saw the role that language and culture played within organizations and was excited about the opportunity to leverage my academic and work experience in a new way. In 2005, I launched Multilingual Connections, and over the years, we’ve grown to support our clients’ increased need to communicate with multilingual speakers - both in the US and internationally.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We are headquartered in Evanston Illinois, just north of Chicago, and we have a global in-house team of language and culture experts and dedicated project managers. We also work with a global network of translators, transcriptionists, subtitlers, voiceover talent, copywriters, and desktop publishing experts who are chosen for projects based on their language and industry background and experience.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
Multilingual Connections is a human-powered and tech-driven company that focuses on relationships. We believe in building long-term partnerships and finding the right solutions for our clients’ needs. That could mean streamlining workflows to deliver fast and accurate translations or creating new technology solutions that work with client needs. But no matter what, we provide linguistically accurate and culturally nuanced language services.

What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer’s needs and requirements?
As a part of our relationship-driven approach, we start by getting to know our client's project goals and discover what success looks like for them. After we complete a project, we develop our partnership by debriefing, improving workflow efficiencies, and incorporating feedback to ensure future success. We strive to constantly educate, automate, and focus on accomplishing our clients’ goals.
What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
We pride ourselves on our partnership approach to language services. Every client, no matter the size of their project, receives the same level of service. You will be introduced to a dedicated project manager who will provide a quote, answer questions, explain the process, confirm the deadline, and be your point person from start to finish. Our project managers are knowledgeable, responsive, and reliable.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
Our services are billed on a per-project basis - no retainer or monthly fees - and our clients are always given a quote upfront so there are no surprises. Each service is charged separately (i.e. per word for translation or per audio minute for transcription). And, there is a range of pricing depending on the languages, with Spanish being the lowest cost option to more expensive languages like Japanese.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Yes, we have a $95 minimum requirement for English and Spanish projects, and a $125 minimum for all other languages.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2020?
We’ve handled one-off projects as small as $95 to enterprise-wide partnerships that are hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?
In the last two years, we’ve nearly doubled our staff and grown our revenue by 58% - and we’ve done that by listening to our clients and ensuring our team feels valued and engaged. Our goal is to continue our strong revenue growth and to be a company that our employees never want to leave.

Review Summary

We worked with Multilingual Connections on a large transcription project with a specific deadline. Despite bit schedule upheavals on our end due to the pandemic, MC remained easy, organized, and friendly to work with throughout, and provided high quality transcriptions and translations of interviews in multiple languages, and were able to meet our deadline. We are very satisfied with our experience, and are hoping to continue working with them in the future.
