4rent.ca is an online platform that connects apartment hunters with rental property owners and managers across Canada. The platform can be used for apartment hunting in a selected area, but also for educational purposes thanks to its blog posts and a magazine on flats and lifestyle. It offers a user-centric experience and innovative features that make the rental property search process more efficient, transparent and rewarding. 

After the redesign one can create alerts for apartments trending in the chosen location and save leads or send contact information if anything similar shows up or if the price goes down. Users can see how the prices changed during a selected time period. The location map was downloaded and uploaded into a database with the locations such as postal code, census subdivision (polygon). To make the application even more user friendly, the platform offers tips on renting places in specific locations and information about various districts in Canada.

Challenges

When our software development team was given a task of bringing the board game to the Web, they had to answer several questions. We’ve not only come up with the logistics of the online game but also designed a user-friendly visually pleasing interface. 

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that the application works fast and manages to present real-time market data feeds to the multiple players at the same time. The application had to store and process big amounts of data very quickly, and to stimulate the complexity of financial markets, there was a need to implement realistic and diverse trading algorithms. The game had to be accessible for players of varying experience levels and both for those who wanted to play it online and as an addition to the board game. 

Solution

We’ve designed a game that’s very easy to navigate and understand. We’ve used databases to store and process large amounts of data fast enough for all the players to have the same information at the same time. We’ve also built bots that enter the game and play with real life players. The mechanics of the game were designed in such a way that anyone can play it and learn from it. There are rooms to which players may join to enter the game with unknown players from all over the world, or they can simply create a room for themselves and their friends. The game allows the players to either play it completely online or to use the cards and betting system of the board game, and only use the online version for seeing the results of their investments.

Tarot Routing allows you to plan driving routes quickly – you no longer have to look up your destinations on a map, allocate them to drivers, and then figure out which order to visit them.

With Tarot Routing, your drivers will drive less to visit each destination. This is because jobs are allocated optimally to drivers, and each driver’s jobs are guaranteed to be performed in the fastest possible order.

Route Optimisation is the process where a computer figures out the best way to allocate Jobs to Drivers, and the fastest sequence for each Driver to complete their Jobs so that they spend the least time driving. Computers are far better at this than humans, and can do in minutes the scheduling work which would take a human hours.

Reduce planning time from hours to minutes. Reduce driving time by 10% – 25% compared to routes planned by hand. Increase the number of Jobs that each Driver can do in a day. Stop dealing with paper run sheets – dispatch straight to Drivers’ smartphones.

WHAT DOES TAROT ROUTING DO?

Tell Tarot Routing where your Drivers are (e.g. at your Depot) and where your Jobs are, then it will figure out which Drivers should do which Jobs in which sequence. Once it has figured this out, it can dispatch those run sheets to your drivers directly using SMS or email, or you can download them as master run sheet in excel.

This is my second experience with Profil- the first being they helped me create SimplyFundraisingCRM, the first nonprofit CRM based on modern design and NO PASSWORDS. After just a couple of years, I ended up selling the business to an incumbent in the space and started this new company.

The people at Profil are really great to work with and I can easily communicate *and* relate to what they are doing. They designs are very modern, and the pace of progress is above average vs. other dev shops I have used in the last 20+ years. Plus, they are just good people in general- you can tell.

Overall, I'm actually worried about providing this positive review because they might become more popular, lol.

Chef and Bartender Finder matches talented chefs, bartenders, and other hospitality workers with equally amazing restaurants and resorts with the right vibes and family values. Profil software is helping build this next generation platform to address the number 1 pain point afflicting restaurants, bars, and resorts: finding and keeping qualified staff.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

The people and their commitment to understand the problem first, then offer potential solutions. I like I don't have to re-invent the wheel, and I can easily communicate with them since I used to be a developer back in the day. I.E., databases have really not fundamentally changed, but front-end UX is way above my pay grade. We can balance each other out with my experience and their knowledge of new technologies.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

The time difference of 6 hours is unavoidable, and sometimes causes issues, but it's OK. I do think that sometimes they are busy with other projects and that work on mine is done 'last minute', which then creates some QA concerns. However, they are very receptive to feedback, because in my experience, it is *never* about perfection, it's all about progress, and we make progress every week. I do think timely communication can be improved, and we are working on that together.

Describe your project in brief

Profil have designed for me an app that helps people to learn and practice meditation with meditation and mindfulness. The app leverages my skills as a meditation teacher, combines it with music and a timer to produce an app called Take3breaths that is now available both for Android and IOS. It can be downloaded both from the Play Store and the App Store.

The contains meditation and mindfulness tutorials, guided meditations and targeted series that focus on specific areas of focus such as stress relief, uncertainty and life balance.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

That the company is flexible, dynamic and open to new ideas. They are extremely good at shaping the ideas that I present, as a client, and then making them better. I like most this spirit of collaboration that results a much better end product.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

There's not much that I like least about the company. Probably the thing that I was most nervous about when I first starting working with Profil was their headoffice location in Poland, but that proved to be unfounded. With use of modern video conferencing this has proved not to be an issue.

We were looking for a top quality software outsourcing partner to rebuild our cybersecurity SaaS platform. We reviewed over 50 software shops online and in the end gave Profil a try. The project is still in development, but we can currently report that our SDLC productivity has doubled compared to what we had previously. The Profil team is embedded within our R&D process. Describe your project in brief

We were looking for a top quality software outsourcing partner to rebuild our cybersecurity SaaS platform. The goal was to deliver a robust online product in the cybersecurity space. The project is still in development, but we can currently report that our software development life cycle (SDLC) productivity has doubled compared to what we had previously.

The Profil team is embedded within our R&D process. We are directly involved in all aspects of Profil's implementation. We have several virtual meetings a week, and use multiple collaboration & SDLC tools, including Google Meet, Jira, Slack, GitHub, etc.

We are impressed with the team's qualifications and attitude to delivering the best product. Profil's leadership seems to put significant emphasis on acquiring and retaining good talent.
