Brightwell is a technology company focused on the development of financial products, including fraud detection and prevention systems, international payments, transfers, and salary deposits. With over 10 years of industry experience and more than 150,000 users, Brightwell is one of the leading companies in its market segment.

ReadyRemit is a complete cross-border payments solution developed by Brightwell that enables cardholders to make international bank transfers and cash withdrawals. It offers its customers access to payments in more than 120 countries and 280,000 cash payment points.

The application features a highly configurable Software Development Kit (SDK), which was tested using its implementation in a mobile application to validate the different components and tools available.

Functional testing was performed on iOS and Android mobile devices within this application. The SDK interacted with a second API component, and testing was conducted using the Postman tool.

Each component was developed by a different team, both following agile methodologies. Therefore, tests were performed individually for each functionality planned in the sprint, followed by regression testing that included end-to-end testing.

Integration testing was also carried out between both components. Issue reporting and tracking were done in the Microsoft Azure tool.

The solution also integrates with major international entities such as Visa and Mastercard and supports various transaction types: P2P, P2B, B2P, B2B.

The testing included reports summarizing data from all completed transfers, the ability to cancel transactions within the first 30 minutes (Dodd-Frank), detection of fraudulent or terrorist accounts (OFAC), and proper use of user identity verification (KYC).

Results

• Definition of the testing strategy considering different levels of testing and integration of the QA team into the development cycle.
• Continuous implementation and execution of over 200 test cases to ensure the proper functioning of the solution.
• Early detection of significant incidents within each sprint.

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a non-governmental organization based at the Bronx Zoo in New York City, with the goal of conserving the world's largest wild places in 14 priority regions.

WCS selected ICA and QAlified to carry out the development and testing of various GIS components and their maintenance. This system is called Impact Platform Mapping Component. The GIS components seamlessly integrate with the Content Management System (CMS). This integration allows for accurate and detailed visualization of maps and geographic regions worldwide. It also facilitates the placement of various points of interest and access to georeferenced and environmental information related to these points.

Results

• Testing activities were effectively integrated into the development cycle, delivering stable and higher-quality versions.
• The implemented cycle uncovered flaws that allowed for a seamless deployment of the solution without critical errors.
• The solution meets the highest standards of quality and operational efficiency.

Liquibase is an organization that offers a product in the DevOps category for Databases with over 100 million downloads. Liquibase is the name of the Java-based product used to control, standardize, and deploy changes to database schemas. 

Scope

The project focused on providing support for the testing process of the tool. This involved performing manual tests on new functionalities and conducting acceptance tests for bug fixes from internal developers and the community.

In addition, automated test cases were carried out using a custom framework based on TestNG.

Regression tests were executed on new versions, and user reports from the Community or Open Source version were submitted to the Github repository, where support is provided to users and solutions to bugs and common issues are discussed.

Furthermore, the QAlified team participated in the design, analysis, and implementation of tests on internal projects.

Results

- Testing and QA activities were integrated into each bi-weekly release, providing new functionalities and fixes to the Open Source community.

- Over a period of approximately one year, the number of open incidents has been reduced from 53% to 38%, significantly improving the quality of the final product.

- A tool was developed to automate the process of creating accessible and independent environments for the entire organization, allowing the creation of test environments in a matter of minutes.

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to research and education in gems and jewelry.

GIA App is a project that is part of the organization’s digital transformation, with the vision to make GIA reports available through a digital platform. GIA App consists of mobile applications for Android and iOS, which are available in app stores. Users can obtain the GIA report for a diamond, colored stone or pearl using its unique number.

QAlified was selected to implement the testing and quality assurance (QA) process, starting with the GIA App project, which includes the mobile applications and web platform. QA activities involve various types of testing conducted by specialized teams.

- Over 150 test cases were designed and continuously executed in different releases, detecting significant bugs.

- An automation testing framework based on Playwright and Katalon was defined. Over 100 test cases were automated to validate aspects of localization, navigation, consistency, and functional correctness.

- Distributed load testing was performed on over 20 instances worldwide to evaluate the performance of exposed services.

- Security and penetration testing were conducted, contributing to the improvement of solution security for users and data protection.

Development Seed partners with the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in building an open-source software ecosystem for visualization, exploration, and data analysis for Earth observations and climate data (VEDA project). QAlified has contributed to this effort by supporting Development Seed teams with web application testing and data quality assurance.

QAlified integrated efficiently with the Development Seed team to support the project’s aim of rapidly building a new web application with features and frequent content updates. This was done by providing well-structured reports on the quality of new content and contextual information to be published.

The team quickly acquired a strong sense of the quality criteria of the scientific data, which included browsing bespoke interfaces and assessing the visual rendering of geospatial information on web maps.

In addition to the content and feature testing, QAlified provided recommendations for automated web application testing and offered professional advice and assistance on improving the development and release process to include quality control efficiently.

As a result, we achieved a rapid evolution of a novel web application and data presentation system with high stability and content quality throughout development.

Solution implemented to manage the COVID-19 vaccination schedule management system for the entire Uruguayan population. Scalable system with different cloud and local components to manage the different solution channels: Web, Chatbot and native Apps.

QAlified performed testing and quality assurance activities for the solution, from its conception through the maintenance stage.

Different tests were performed at different levels, starting with unit tests for the different components, continuing with integrated tests, and finishing up with tests for the system and its interoperability with the scheduling system and the different communication channels (Web, Chatbot, Apps).

The solution included AWS components, among them different APIs and message queues tasked with receiving scheduling requests. These requests are processed by the scheduling component, which assigns slots based on different criteria including the date of entry, groups of individuals to be prioritized, and vaccination types, among other aspects.

For the API, automated tests were implemented using Postman to evaluate the different scenarios.

The scheduling component was tested using different testing techniques to ensure coverage of the different conditions and states an individual might go through when coordinating the schedule.

Due to an increasing demand of the population wanting to be scheduled, load and stress tests were performed to ensure the scalability of the system, with response times of less than one second when simulating high concurrency scenarios.

As part of the solution, a Dashboard was included with access to different queries to make decisions about how to distribute doses among the different vaccination centers.  The tests were also performed at a database level and for the visualization of the information to ensure the consistency and integrity of the information presented to users.

Loog Guitars designs and builds 3-string guitars for children and teenagers between the ages of 3 and 14. There are several models; their main purpose is to make it easy and fun to learn. Loog has an application for tablets and mobile phones which, through games, tools and lessons, makes it possible to motivate children to learn to use their own guitar.

The application is focused on children and includes a considerable set of innovative functionalities such as a tuner, a songbook, an internal economy based on points, augmented reality to learn chords, and fun games.

The aim of the tests was to evaluate the usability of a new application version for tablets and its interaction with guitars through the use of tests with children between the ages of 8 and 12.

The main research questions that were asked were:

• Can children understand the user interface?
• Which are the most complicated tasks?
• Do the games catch their attention and are they appropriate?
• Which part of the application do they find most entertaining?
• What is the interaction between the application and the guitar?

Based on these questions, a test script was created for the children to execute, and to evaluate the application’s usability and interaction with the guitar.

As a part of the new Home Banking solution implementation project, QAlified was integrated into the bank’s team to support several quality assurance activities.

Automated tests were implemented at a user interface level with Katalon Studio for the most important solution functionalities. The tests were carried out in different stages, accompanying the system’s incremental releases.

To complement this, support was offered for manual test executions to have a broader coverage during the final testing cycles. In addition, performance tests were carried out for the solution’s most widely used functionalities.

These made it possible to simulate the application’s real-life usage before going into production and to make adjustments to the application’s infrastructure.

QAlified worked together with Jigso Labs to carry out the quality assurance and testing processes to implement the Integrated Management System.

The team coached Montes del Plata from the early stages of requirements gathering until the solution went into production, contributing in preventing defects from a business perspective.

Functional tests were carried out for all of the system’s functionalities and executed on the Web platform and for iOS and Android mobile devices.

As part of the tests, a usability evaluation was performed using system prototypes, taking into account the different roles that would interact with it.

Implementing the system involved migrating data from the previous system to the new one. This process was validated using SQL queries and specific data tests.

Lastly, load tests were performed for the application with the aim of evaluating its performance against the expected usage in production.

SoyDelivery is a technology company which offers innovative logistics solutions. Through a route optimization system, they make it possible to reduce delivery costs and wait times, thus having a positive impact on consumer experience.

The service offered by the platform makes it possible to manage deliveries for products or services from start to finish, from the time the request is entered to the creation of routes, assignment of drivers, management of visits and deliveries.

Due to the high demand received by the platform in Uruguay and the expansion of the business to other markets, the QAlified team carried out performance tests for the solution.

The scope of the tests included the web back-end, and the two native mobile applications, one of them for the end user, and one for the driver.

Performance tests were carried out for the solution. The reality scenarios to be simulated were modeled through the most critical flows. Test scripts were created and different test scenarios were executed, increasing the amount of concurrent users with a populated database.

The primary indicators for the application, which operates in the Amazon cloud (AWS), were monitored.

The work was done together with the development team to evaluate different solutions to identified bottlenecks, and different improvements were applied to reduce response times.

Testing and quality assurance consulting services were performed within the framework of the activities of the organization’s IT team.

The focus of the consulting services was the organization’s Centralized System, developed with GeneXus.

As part of the work, exchange activities were first carried out to reach a general understanding of the system, the working methodology and the current team’s capabilities, among other aspects.

With this information, an analysis was carried out which was completed with a diagnosis of the implemented testing practices.

A Testing and SQA Strategic Plan was created aligned with the objectives and needs put forward by the organization.

Once this stage was completed, the team was trained on how to use a test automation tool. As part of this training, a proposal was made about how to implement the first automated unit-level tests.

Additionally, support was offered for the definition of a testing strategy for specific development projects and their execution.
