THE IDEA: Embracing technology to transform the retail landscape

Having spent decades as transportation/logistics operators, Fillogic’s leadership team saw an opportunity to make local logistics for fulfillment and delivery easier for retail businesses. The company is on a mission to help their retail partners decipher the writing on the wall, as technology continues to rapidly transform the landscape in which they all work.

THE CHALLENGE: Create software to manage order fulfillment

Modern consumers expect to be able to order a product online, have it fulfilled locally, and shipped / delivered through their choice of methods. They also demand a simplified return process.

These expectations are creating new logistics challenges for retailers of all shapes and sizes. Fillogic sought to address this challenge with a custom software solution to manage the logistics of retail order fulfillment - connecting the needs of customers, business owners, carriers, retail staff, final mile sortation, and more.

THE SOLUTION: Multiple solutions to power a modern business

Revelry partnered with Fillogic from the beginning to build the core software that drives their business, contributing to several technological solutions:

  • An Elixir and Phoenix web app to manage logistics

  • A React Native internal application

  • Product design services to create UI and support branding

  • Multiple API integrations with partner regional carriers

  • Best-in-class micro-services to deploy and scale across locations

Fillogic knew the initial version of the product was just the beginning. To position the company for growth, Revelry partnered with Fillogic to:

  • Build a leadership team: The Fillogic VP of Engineering and Head of Product transferred from Revelry to continue growing the company

  • Build a technical team: Fillogic utilized Revelry’s apprenticeship program to recruit and train new engineers

  • Augment staff to widen Fillogic’s ability to evolve and expand its product

THE IDEA: Create a Fun Way to Teach Developers Extism

Dylibso is on a mission to make WebAssembly everyone’s favorite binary format. To this end, it wanted to create a mobile-optimized web application to give developers a way to publish and play their games virtually, while simultaneously learning to use Dylibso’s open source, universal plug-in system, Extism.

THE CHALLENGE: Deliver on a Tight Timeline

When Dylibso approached Revelry for product delivery support, it needed a trusted, reliable partner to help create a proof of concept for sharing at the 2023 WASM/IO Conference in Barcelona; Gamebox was envisioned as a means for helping developers learn to use Dylibso’s Web Assembly tooling.

The Dylibso team had a strong sense of where it wanted to go with Gamebox, but as Revelry became more involved in the project, it was clear that the product roadmap could benefit from additional eyes and expertise. Among the key opportunities identified by Revelry: Improving the user interface and user experience to assure developer / player satisfaction.

“When we decided we wanted to step this up and make this a professional app, we turned to Revelry for help. In a few short weeks, they were able to polish it into something we can be proud of.” - Benjamin Eckel, Co-Founder, Dylibso

THE DELIVERY: A Polished, Show-Worthy Web Application

Revelry’s work on Gamebox was both feature and function focused.

Front-end developers brought the benefit of a fresh set of eyes and broad, deep experience to Gamebox’s UI and UX design and development. Efforts were largely focused on:

  • User testing sessions

  • User flows

  • Creation of a design asset library

Revelry’s back-end engineers worked to:

  • Implement GitHub Auth

  • Create the schema / architecture to associate authenticated Github users to specific game creators

THE RESULTS: A Successful Product and Partnership

Gamebox was delivered as promised for use at the 2023 WASM/IO Conference.

THE IDEA: 3D Scanning For All

While 3D printers have become more affordable to the general public, few people have one at home. The Entrescan team dreamed of building software that would allow consumers to create 3D scans of images using a phone or scanner, and then submit them to be printed and shipped. The 3D scans could be created by individual consumers, as well as used in professional settings, such as medical and real estate.

THE CHALLENGE: Build and Launch an MVP

Revelry got involved early in the creation of Entrescan. Working collaboratively, our collective goal was to create an app with three core features / capabilities:

  • Displaying and manipulating 3D models in the browser without requiring special plugins

  • Integrating with an external 3D rendering and processing service required for printing

  • Creating an interface that makes 3D scanning and printing easy for anyone, even those without 3D printing experience

THE SOLUTION: A Multi-Discipline Approach For the Win

Revelry’s team had never worked with 3D scanning technology before, but by leveraging both our knowledge of software engineering and trusted Lean Agile process, we were able to deliver a product the Entrescan team loved.

  • The initial build of Entrescan’s software took three months.

  • Our back-end engineering team built the app using React Native, Ruby on Rails, and PostgreSQL.

  • Revelry’s front-end design engineering team created the app’s UI, as well as
supported the company in establishing its overall brand identity.

The Idea: Audit the user experience to improve an existing product

Whetstone wanted to create a way to minimize the amount of time school leaders spend on classroom observation and feedback paperwork. It had a platform to streamline observation notes, feedback, goal setting, and growth analysis, but users struggled to find what they needed and effectively share their work. Whetstone’s CEO brought in Revelry to conduct a User Experience Audit to pinpoint and prioritize needs and opportunities.

The Challenge: Interim technology leadership and a complete platform rebuild

Initially, Whetstone’s leadership planned to implement Revelry’s User Experience Audit suggestions by building upon its existing code base; however, it quickly realized that it needed to start from scratch and build a completely new platform if it wanted to deliver desiredß features and functionality. The scope of the work needed was complex and called for Revelry to effectively operate as the company’s CTO throughout the project. Revelry also provided support in the areas of product management, front-end design and development, and back-end engineering.

“Revelry acted as an advisor on all technical issues, and helped us hire our own set of engineers. Really, it was them and me building the whole product. I brought the vision of what it would look like, and Revelry handled all the technical components, from the UI/UX [user interface/user experience] design to the process flows and information architecture,” said Whetstone Education CEO Eric Lavin.

The Delivery: A Client Ready, New Product in 3 Months

Whetstone Education’s new platform was launched three months after the project start. It went live with 10 existing clients / schools using it and had 40 total schools registered 6 months later.

“They’re all great [at Revelry], and very talented. They know how to work within a defined scope and tight budget. It’s been extremely valuable having them as our dedicated technology partner.”
