Mondelēz International empowers people to snack right in over 150 countries around the world. They lead the future of snacking with iconic global and local brands such as Oreo, belVita, and LU biscuits; Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milka and Toblerone chocolate; Sour Patch Kids candy, Trident gum, and chocolate biscuits Barni.

CHALLENGE

The 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence was coming up and our client, Mondelēz International, wanted to do something special for the occasion. They decided to show some of the wonders of Ukraine in all of their glory. The idea was to depict five culturally important destinations in AR by allowing customers to scan a QR code on the package of their popular chocolate biscuits, Barni.

Skywell Software was tasked with implementing the educational AR application for children via the web, with a huge amount of visual 2D content and professional voice acting, as well as small games.

EXPECTED RESULTS

As we mentioned earlier, the event was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Ukrainian independence, which meant that there could not be any delays. All of the five AR locations needed to be done on time (5 different packs, depicting 5 different parts of Ukraine).

The main activity was directed to the ATB retail network along with contests and prizes on social networks.

FUNCTIONALITY

The added AR functionality definitely added a new layer of excitement to the already festive atmosphere. Users could scan a QR code and view a layout of one of five parts of Ukraine on the ground. They can also interact with landmarks and stories about them. Also inside the web application, there are five mini-games with historical and interesting facts about the sights. This allowed the history of Ukraine to come alive, providing children with more fun and exciting learning experience.

CHALLENGE

The project had very tight timeframes, making it difficult to fit in all of the complex processes, such as generating a database of codes and defining a system for prize distribution.

EXPECTED RESULTS

As a result of this project, the New Year promo for cookie brand OREO was to take place with the possibility to win a prize.

USER FUNCTIONALITY

The customer journey looks as follows – the customer buys cookies in the shop and receives a code which they can use to win a prize. Following the link, the customer gets to the page to go through a quick and simple registration to get to the page where they see a fortune ball with interactive elements on the screen snowflakes and sparkles creating a New Year mood appear. Then after shaking the ball like you’d do in real life (by shaking your phone or moving it by the mouse if used on a PC), the user gets either a New Year wish or receives a notification about winning the prize and seeing it’s a photo. There is also a possibility to share your results on social networks.

SOLUTION

We were making all of this possible due to the hard preparatory work has done before the campaign's launch. We needed to generate 12-digit codes that would be separated and transmitted to retail chains. If the user won a prize, they would need to come to a particular location with the original check to claim their prize. The operator at the receiving point would use the administrative page to match the check number with a certain prize code.

CUSTOMER:

Tatt.on.me is a brand of temporary tattoos for each and every fun event.  Temporary tattoos are made from safe non-toxic eco ink, so they are great for kids.

CHALLENGE:

At the moment, when the client turned to us, they already had working version of the application making tattoos alive. Still, the app was not optimized, and its performance and scalability were something to further work with. Our client’s supplier at that time was not able to help anymore. And for us, it was a challenging task because continuing someone’s work is always a much more difficult task than doing it your own way from the beginning. Nevertheless, starting with the code audit, we realized that the task is quite doable for us, and that’s how our cooperation started.

EXPECTED RESULTS:

App performance optimization – after our development app had to work much quicker, the asset size had to be optimized as well, thus allowing more content to be available in the app. Also, the functionality of capturing and then showing animals in AR had to be significantly enhanced.

USER FUNCTIONALITY

Due to the updates implemented by Skywell Software, it now became a lot easier to view tattoos in AR. The application would work even if the tattoo were hard to see by using the manual tattoo viewing more. When the user hovers their smartphone camera over the tattoo, it will download all of the necessary elements to make it come alive. It also became possible to record the action, save it and share the video with friends.

SOLUTION

The solution created by Skywell Software offered a significant upgrade in connecting the AR content to the tattoos. In addition, the weight of the application was also optimized to make it more user-friendly and accessible on more devices. This also greatly simplified and enhanced the development process.

Mondelēz International had a business objective of improving customer loyalty and increasing the sales of one of their products, Barni, in six countries: Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, and Azerbaijan. Therefore, they needed a web application with 12 unique characters placed on trading cards and then come alive through AR.

Skywell Software created 12 dinosaur characters in 2D and 3D. The user would be able to interact with these characters through a web app that we also created. It only weighed 16 MB which allowed the client to realize the sales potential of AR fully. The web application was also very user-friendly. All the user had to do was scan a QR code, and they would be able to view a model on a card or the ground, interact with the model, collect (transfer dinosaurs to the site), create, share and save a photo, as well as read a story about every dinosaur.
