BEWARE: Unethical practices, no results

I used the service for a year and got no results. Most opportunities were free or very small fees. And many in very small, remote locations. I sent in a few applications, was shortlisted, but ultimately, no gigs. When the year was up, they billed my credit card for the next full year automatically, with no notification. (They said they assumed my notice was caught by my SPAM filter.) They refunded part of the fee, but kept a prorated amount, saying I had received services during the time before I noticed it on my credit card -- over the holidays. Their responses to my queries were slow and impersonal.

It's a disingenuous to say unethical and no results. Neither is accurate nor Becky's experience.
While we cannot guarantee bookings, we can guarantee both exposure and making sure you are aware of speaking opportunities out there. We wish we could guarantee that you'll be booked, but unfortunately, we cannot (and you should be wary of anyone who makes such a claim). Sometimes, it's a matter of making sure your content comes across the right set of eyes at the right time. Remember this: you can't possibly get booked unless you know about an opportunity, and a meeting planner can't possibly book you if they don't know about you. The main benefits of SpeakerMatch are 1) increasing your visibility, and 2) making you aware of speaking opportunities.
It may help to consider SpeakerMatch an advertising expense. The nice thing about this form of advertising is that it is very inexpensive, has a great reach, and you can continually tweak it to make it more effective.

As for the billing issue, we're not trying to get away with anything nefarious. We do use automated systems to help us keep up with thousands of speakers and meeting planners -- because there's only 2 of us here. Members can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel their subscriptions at any time with a click or two. Billing notices and reminders are sent in advance, and all information about an account is visible in the members online Member Center. We do our best to respond to all inquiries within 1 business day.
