Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?

Sunflower Lab is an intersection of technology, business, and innovation. We are a family of Software Engineer, Technology Enthusiastic, and Creative people. Our focus is to deliver a high-quality product with the highest quality of service to our clients. Sunflower Lab is proficient in building a mobile application, web application, and custom software applications. We help our clients for cloud migration and deployment, DevOps automation, and test automation.

My primary role in the business is marketing, brand recognition and build company which can solve a business problem with technology. With more than 15 years of experience in the IT industry, I’ve made it a point to be a generalist who can contribute and lead in any technical discipline. I have led Sunflower team to thrive on the challenging – the seemingly impossible.

What was the idea behind starting this organization?

I being the CTO of Sunflower Lab recognized challenges many corporations faces around building software which solves their business problems in a limited budget and smaller time frame. Utilizing cutting edge technology is not possible for giant IT service provider but for us, it is a passion. We started our company to fulfill this market demand and proud to continue serving our client.

What is your company’s business model–in-house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?

We have in-house teams to design/build/test/deploy software. However, we do not shy away to utilize any sub-contractor if any project demands skill which is not available in an in-house team.

How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?

We are the company situated in various locations around the world such as Ohio, New Jersey, and India. Our hybrid team is made up of the on-site and remote resource. Resources who work with the client and share same physical location are considered as on-site resources. Our cost for the remote resource is lower than on-site resources because we pass this cost advantage of hybrid teams back to the client.

What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?

We have been helping retail, manufacturing, healthcare, Insurance, IT start-ups. We are not limited to any specific industry. We have over 90% of repetitive clients.

Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.

There are multiple parameters which help us determining the time frame of developing a mobile application. I would like to mention some most important ones which are Mobile application platform (iOS, Android, Windows), Device (Phone and/or tablet), Complexity of project and last but not the least scope of the project.

How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?

There is no specific time for the frontend & the backend, however, on an average, we can say that most of our mobile application projects are built in the range of 4 to 12 weeks of timeframe.

What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?

Mainly there are two parameters to be considered before right platform selection for a mobile app development project. One is target audience; for instance, many of our corporate customers have handed out android or windows tablet to their employees so in that case, if we are developing an application for their employees then our preference is based on tablets utilized by them. Second is, market penetration; we utilize market penetration of operating system and hardware which helps us determining supported operating system and hardware.

Which platform do you suggest your clients, to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?

We suggest our clients, to select iOS first due to few reasons. First, iOS have significant market share in the mobile market. Secondly, numbers of iOS device models are less than Android device models.

Which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?

We recommend our clients to build a native app for Android or iOS. The native app has much better performance, responsiveness, and any hardware integration capability than a hybrid app.

What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?

The cost of a mobile application can be determined with the help of three elements such as complexity of the project, the scope of the project, the design required by the client and lastly development and testing efforts invested by our developers.

What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone?

In our fixed price or time/material models, clients pay by milestones. Most of our milestones are based on features and functionality. We suggest clients which model works better for them considering their requirements.

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement?

We have many large scale projects above $200,000. On the other hand, we have also worked on a small application which is as low as $5,000.

What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2016?

Our project range lies anywhere between $5,000 & $500,000.

Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?

The business model is usually dependant on a case by case. We discuss various penetration model and how the app can increase their user base. Social platform integration, making app free and provide in-app purchase, marketing app on various platforms etc are more common tactics for most mobile apps.
