Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
Techuz is a mobile and web development company with expertise in developing startup and enterprise applications. We started in 2013 with a small group of tech-minded individuals in Ahmedabad, India. Today, we have grown our offices in USA and Singapore with a team of 60+ highly talented developers and designers. Over the past half decade, we have served 55+ clients with 100+ B2B and B2C applications from varied industries including sports, edTech, healthcare, e-commerce, automobiles, logistics and more.

As a CEO of the company, I look after the business part that includes sales, client communication and strategies for growth and expansion. But being a tech and coding enthusiast, I’m always eager to provide my input to the operations and project management team.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
Back in 2010, we were a group of four people with a vision for a product. We worked on that for almost a year. However, due to some reason, we had to drop that idea. But in that process, we gained crucial insights and knowledge on what it takes to build an impeccable product. We also realized that most of the mobile app and web development companies at that time were delivering subpar quality services. And this was not what the clients wanted. We saw a huge opportunity in this space and decided to penetrate the market. Our previous experience in building products and zest to provide unparalleled quality helped us, and soon Techuz became an eminent name.
What is your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Techuz has a dedicated in-house team of designers, developers, and QAs. Our talented in-house team performs every process from strategizing, management, designing, development to testing and launch. We do not outsource.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
The clients not only hire us because of our technical expertise but also for our company’s culture and philosophy. The philosophy we live by - “Delivering Promises.” And when you have an in-house team they become a part of the philosophy. From the technical and operational point of view, our business model provides better results. We hire only the top talented developers and creative designers of the industry. This makes a difference in our clients’ projects.

We also follow the agile approach for project development, which needs an active channel of communication both with clients and internally for any updates and changes. And since the entire team works under one roof, project management becomes a lot more efficient. It also benefits startups who are skeptical about the protection of their Intellectual Property. With our business model, they get enhanced security for their ideas as we have an in-house team that follows the company’s stringent intellectual property and source code policies.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive?
We are not limited to the particular segment as long as the client requirement lies under our expertise. We have catered our development services to a full spectrum of industry - education, sports, automobiles, logistics, e-commerce, healthcare and more.

Yes, our clients often get back to us because Techuz believes in client retention. To be precise, we have 60% overall repetitive customer ratio who believe in our technical strength for their new ventures or for the late phases of their projects over the thousands of established organization.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a web app.
Myriad factors decide the timeframe of web application development. We take into account things such as research and analysis of the product and competitors, wireframing and prototyping, UI/UX, custom coding and architecture, the complexity of features, third-party Integration and more. And these are just a few of them. So to calculate the exact time frame and create a detailed SOW we try to get a deep understanding of the project and its requirement first of all. When it comes to startups looking for an MVP, we offer a unique three months MVP development model. The MVP application is loaded with the basic core features enough to launch the app and collect some real market feedback.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a web app?
Although frontend includes a lot - UI such as the page design, elements, navigation and CTA buttons, dropdown menu; the UX defines the journey of the user from point A to point B in the application and more, so it takes comparatively lesser time. While the complex business logic, API integration, admin panel, database and more in the backend usually needs more time. Percentage-wise roughly 60-65% of the time is dedicated to the backend.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a web application?
The selection of platform and technology stack mostly affects the success of the application. That's the reason we drill down through the project at micro levels. There are many parameters, but the primary ones are the function and type of the app, features, complexity, security, time to market and scalability.
Which platform and technologies do you prefer to use in development of your web apps?
We use technologies based on the project needs that can give maximum results. Being a team of JavaScript ninjas we use the leading JS technologies such as Angular, React, Vue.js, Node.js, and Meteor.js. We also use PHP for backend and its frameworks - Laravel, Cake.php, Yii and Codeigniter.
Do you offer website design templates or customised website design, and do you have a responsive website design?
Most of the projects we work on require a custom design. They have numerous pages, with varied layouts and elements. Using a web design template won't provide a great user experience. So our team of UI/UX and web designers create custom designs that tailor-fit the project needs and resonates with the client's brand. However, sometimes when a client is looking for a cost-effective option for their admin-side panel, we recommend using a web design template.

Talking about responsive design, it is no longer an option but a necessity for web-based solutions. When your users are on multiple gadgets with varied screen sizes, you have to provide them with a responsive design that looks pixel perfect on each. Apart from the responsiveness of the website, we also consider google AMP, Cloudflare CDN and mobile compressed images to reduce latency and loading time on different devices. This makes sure the user gets the best experience.
Which Content Management System do you prefer to use (Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal etc)?
We use Wordpress and its plugins for simple websites and small projects while where there is a need for huge a CMS, Drupal is our first choice.
Do you provide website maintenance services?
The work doesn't end once the web app/website is developed and deployed. Keeping it up-to-date is a lifelong process that ensures its success. Soon after the web application is used, we provide our clients with free maintenance for a certain period. And after that, the client can opt for maintenance package or reach out to use for specific minor tweaks or significant updates.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a web application?
We consider factors such as the size of the project, complexity, number of developers, experience of developers involved, features and time to market.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We provide flexible pricing model as per the type of software development methodology of the project. We provide both pay per milestone and time and material model. If there is a fixed scope of the project, the clients prefer to pay per milestone. In this, there is some upfront amount involved when we get started and after the completion of each milestone, which includes proper testing and changes as per the feedback, we accept the last payment.
On the other hand, for the projects where there are constant changes, we follow the agile approach. For such projects, time and material prove to be more feasible. We employ dedicated developers on the project, and the client is billed for the number of hours spent on the project. Both of these models are feasible for clients with different needs.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
The size of the projects matters less to us as long as the client is willing to pay the per hour rate that is profitable. Another fact is that Techuz gives more importance to client relationships. In many instances, even though the project was small, a good relation with client helped us get a huge one.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
In 2018, we worked on projects with a varied price range. The minimum and maximum price range was $5k and $100k respectively.
