My name is Alexey Slizkov, and I am currently the CEO of the Czech-Russian company— The MASСС. Our company develops complex software for the banking sector. Our company has more than 140 full-time developers.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
The main idea of creating the company was to simplify and automate the routine processes of organizations. Until 2012, we were engaged in the installation and maintenance of elevators. One of the Directors came up with the idea to automate most of the processes, so we gathered a small team of developers. The first task for developers was to develop a BPM system. The BPM system turned out to be excellent and greatly facilitated the work of the entire enterprise. Since then, the development team has grown, and an entirely new direction has appeared in the company - software development and developer outsourcing. By the way, the automation system developed in 2012 is still used by some Russian and Czech companies.
What is your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Our company employs more than 140 in-house developers of various levels. We also launched an affiliate program in Russia. The main idea of our partner program is that we will give some of our clients to those who have free developers at a high level. At the moment, we have a massive flow of clients, and we do not always have enough full-time developers. To do this, we have attracted more than 270 Russian-speaking IT companies and divided them by the services and technologies provided. One company - one service. Thus, we have identified the best competencies of our partners.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
I can't say that our prices are lower or higher than companies that provide services at a comparable level. I think we can say that we have average prices and they are justified. This is evidenced by the positive reviews of our clients on your resource GoodFirms' ratings.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive?
Most often, our clients are large banks and insurance companies. We are also happy to work with startups and medium-sized businesses.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing software.
Everything is very individual. The time frame is affected by the following parameters: execution technologies and the scale of the task. For example, we will develop web service in Java much faster than in Scala only because we have more Java developers.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of software?
Again, everything is very individual. But I can say that up to 60% of the time given to the project is spent on backend and frontend development is 40% are architecture, design, and tests.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right framework for developing software?
It all depends on the final goal. You need to represent the product being developed clearly. After agreeing on programming languages, we use the most optimal frameworks.
Which languages & frameworks do you prefer to use in the development of software?
The MASСС company positions itself as a universal developer. For software development, we use more than 20 programming languages and about 25 frameworks. This is what prompted us to create a network of partners from more than 270 IT companies.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of the software?
We consider things such as the main task of the software, language, framework, number of developers, high or low system load.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
For small projects, this is usually an hourly fee. We also use the Time and Material system.
Do you take in projects which meet your essential budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
We rarely start from such a parameter as price. Like everyone else, we love exciting or useful projects for the end-user. We often work in the price segment (less than $ 10,000). There were also free social projects where we just liked the idea.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2019?
In 2019, we worked with projects that cost from $ 3,000 to $ 160,000. There were also more expensive projects, but this is in the next interview.
