Nortal is one of the largest software engineering companies in Northern Europe. It has recently developed a new electronic medical records system for the management and documentation of hospital visits. The developers at Toughlex were engaged to implement the system's user interface according to the designs and business logic they were given.

Challenges

With a system of this scale, maintaining its ever-expanding code base was a big challenge. Refusing to be intimidated, however, we forged ahead.

Goals

In an environment of ever-increasing requirements, we set ourselves the goal to increase the pace of development. For this purpose, we also laid out a few key points that would make development faster and maintenance relatively hassle-free:

  • Reduce complexity of existing library usage solutions
  • Better utilize features of the Angular framework (content projection, dependency injection, Angular modules)
  • Create useful NgRx patterns
  • Assist in maintenance of the component library

Created Value

First, we got in touch with the existing project team to learn about the project's current state: its most valuable aspects, future vision and pain points. This allowed us to prioritize work according to client's values. The agile development environment helped us to stay on the right path throughout the process.

NgRx Store

Improved composition of NgRx redux store modules for easier reusability. Moved more of the application to storage, which helped us to create a more natural data flow in the components used.

Component Library

Provided assistance with the utilization of library components useful for the development of common user interface solutions. Improved the select, data-table, tree, modal and other components. Used Storybook to display newly developed presentational components.

Custom Solutions

Helped to implement a generic solution for the various classifier types that are common in medical records. Introduced nested forms which helped us to reuse the most common parts of medical forms.

Outcome

Toughlex provided vital assistance in the problem solving process and continues to make the best possible technical decisions for the front-end development side of the project. With core development patterns now firmly in place, developers have more time to work on business-value details. In addition, the development process itself became more predictable over time, enabling us to rely on current estimations for future releases. Work on this project slowly transitioned from working on solutions to common problems to dreaming about ideal generalization and worldwide adoption.

Gideon Informatics, founded in 1992, is the developer of the GIDEON app and the Gideon ebook series designed for health professionals and educators. Hundreds of customers from around the world, including educational institutions, hospitals, public health departments and military organizations, have chosen Gideon as their diagnosis and reference tool for Infectious diseases and microbiology. In 2020, Gideon was ready to revamp its User Interface to meet the latest industry standards.

Challenges

The biggest challenge to overcome was developing a complex UI solution assembled from large data sets that were not compatible with the old UI.

To achieve best results we needed to choose technologies that were capable of supporting massive amounts of traffic. All of the solutions we developed were thoroughly assessed, tested, and implemented.

Created Value

Even though the app relied on huge amounts of data and complex data structures, our team was able to deliver a fast, attractive, and secure app within a short timeframe. With the help of agile, we managed to stay in close touch with Gideon, which enabled us to work at maximum efficiency throughout the entire development process.

Responsive Design

Thanks to responsive web design, the app's content is clearly displayable on all devices, regardless of resolution. This guarantees that app users have the best possible experience when using the website or mobile app on any device.

Gideon's platform has a lot of functionality and users expect the system to work as fast as possible. Tele2 is a major telecommunications operator in the Nordic and Baltic countries, and an alternative provider in many others. With 4G connection covering 99% of Lithuania's territory (which is also used by Pildyk users), Tele2 is one of the leading prepaid mobile operators in Lithuania. With a rapidly growing user base came the need for new system functionalities, as well as the maintenance and improvement of existing ones.

Challenges

The biggest challenge for Toughlex to overcome was figuring out how to merge two cumbersome and rather different applications based on different technologies into a single, lightweight, one-page application.

In order to achieve this goal and ensure fast and successful project delivery, we made every effort to take part in the entire project development process, from the planning stage to release.

Despite the two applications being developed using a variety of different technologies and incompatible design patterns, our team managed to successfully merge them into a single, light-weight, single-page application.

AgileTo deal with the constantly changing requirements, and a barrage of incoming tasks we relied on agile development principles. More specifically, with the help of the Scrum framework, we were able to stay in close touch with the client throughout the entire process of development.

RedesignToughlex was – and remains – an essential part of the redesign of Pildyk. With the help of skilled web designers, we performed a near-complete overhaul of the system's look, implemented new features, improved performance, and more.

24/7 supportGiven the company's hundreds of thousands of users and steep competition with other providers, Toughlex was hard pressed to maximize the system's uptime during the entire development process. To accomplish this, we assigned a Toughlex representative to react quickly and help solve any and all problems as may arise prior to completion.

All of their solutions are modular, and easily inter-operate with all major technologies used throughout their digital advertising ecosystem.

Adform was founded in Denmark in 2002 and is among the world’s largest private and independent advertising technology companies. They have over 700 employees globally, with offices in 18 countries throughout Europe, North America, and APAC.

Project goal

The main goal of the project was to create redesigned web pages under banners ecosystem that will have all the previous functionality as well as brand new user experience. Moreover, there were few challenging requirements:

  • Code readability and structure must meet all the general rules inside and outside of Adform
  • Performance is a priority
  • All the code must be covered with unit, integration and End-to-End tests
  • All the possible and probable edge cases must be handled

Context

Established by tourism professionals in 2009, Tour Operator Firmus Baltic aims to provide high-quality services throughout Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, and Belarus. Working internationally truly smart Firmus Baltic team noticed the demand for a B2B booking platform. They visualized web platform, which allowed travel agencies to book flights, hotels, transfers, cars, SPA & Medical Treatment. All travel services in one place. Firmus Baltic team was not hesitating a lot and decided to implement their wonderful idea – Go24.Travel.

Project goal

The main goal of the project was to create a primary version of Go24.Travel platform, which would be ready to scale. Moreover, there were few challenging requirements:

  • Integration with multiple providers must be implemented and duplicates must be prevented in search results
  • All financial calculations must be correct keeping in mind different currencies and laws internationally
  • Performance is a priority
  • Scalability is a priority

toughlex helped ServiceBridge in making one of the most robust and dynamic royalty reporting systems in the franchise field service industry.

Context

ServiceBridge provides cloud-based field service management software since 2014. With their previous experience in the industry, fast release schedule, support of web, Android, and iOS, ability to adapt to unique needs of their clients, ServiceBridge became one of the industry leaders. With the decision to capture the franchisor market appeared a need to roll out franchisor focused functionality fast. To meet tight deadlines, some outside help was needed.

Project goal

The main ServiceBridge goal of the partnership with toughlex was to work with the creation of new franchise royalty reporting system. Besides the functionality requirements ranging from support of different royalty agreements to services like exemptions, promissory notes and many more, the goal was to make almost every part easily configurable. No programming work should be needed to adapt the royalties system to a client with unique needs. In cases when the functionality needs to be extended, the entire system should allow to do it with a minimal amount of friction.

Members of the toughlex team were given the chance to demonstrate their skills during a recent pilot week. Our technical knowledge and good cultural fit made an impression on the Dutch company. Hyarchis and toughlex are currently pursuing long-term cooperation.

Pilot Week

Members of the toughlex team were given the chance to demonstrate their skills during the pilot week that was held by Hyarchis at its offices in Eindhoven and Amsterdam. Before the pilot week, we set some goals for ourselves:

  • Create MVPs for two projects using Angular
  • Integrate Angular applications with the Hyarchis platform
  • Measure our cultural fit
  • Prepare a mini roadmap for future cooperation
