The Challenge

The client is set to become the dominant pan-African solution for affordable cross-border remittances and bill payment. Thus, the company was looking for a technology partner to build a comprehensive digital banking product to enable cross-currency operations, payments, transfers and other financial services within Africa and beyond its boundaries.

The Solution

The client partnered with Velmie to build the desired banking solution on our core banking platform including a web interface for both admins and customers and a mobile app. Being a white-label solution, the platform’s functionality and appearance was tailored for the specific client’s requirements within just 3 months.

The architecture meets all international security standards and is PCI DSS compliant which was further certified by the client.

On top of that, according to the specific requests, we built custom integrations with service providers such as MPesa, Flutterwave, Payfast, Africastalking and others.

The software is ultimate enough to become a one-stop solution for various users. It supports multiple payment channels including mobile money and all major international card networks – Visa, MasterCard, Visa Virtual Card, etc.

The Challenge

Our client is a banking platform provider and its core system is used by various banks across the globe, serving millions of customers. 5 years since its launch, the client faced typical problems of a rapid expansion: lack of platform scalability and disorganized development processes. The platform was built using outdated technologies and, furthermore, with the system architecture being a complete mismatch with the business requirements.

The Solution

By partnering with Velmie the client made a game-changing decision to rewrite the entire platform using the very latest and best technologies available. Our developers used the microservices approach in order to speed up deployment cycles, foster innovation, and ownership, and improve the maintainability and scalability of the client’s software.

The Outcome

  • Growth and maintenance with 60% less resources required.
  • Reliable back-end on top of AWS infrastructure using the microservices approach.
  • Secure and PCI-compliant.
  • The platform can serve more customers while being faster and more reliable.
  • Can be crafted to meet the demands of more clients with less coding work involved.

Review Summary

We began a relationship with Velmie, previously known as iKantam, a few years ago. Initially they were pretty responsive and attentive.

However, over the past several months they became increasingly difficult to engage, in spite of having a paid support agreement with them.

We even tried to get a minimal amount of help to move to a new vendor. No response to emails and messages.

We have moved on, and are trying to calculate how many clients were lost due to inadequate support.

If you're considering them, you should also know this address is not their office. The actual staff are based in Minsk, Belarus.

Definitely not recommended.

Describe your project in brief

We began a relationship with Velmie, previously known as iKantam, a few years ago. Initially they were pretty responsive and attentive.

However, over the past several months they became increasingly difficult to engage, in spite of having a paid support agreement with them. The impact of this was compounded by having deadlines for two social media platforms within 30 days.

Initially, we were promised an additional resource, even adding them to AWS to access the system. A few days later, less three weeks from the deadline, they withdrew the offer.

Then we tried to get a minimal amount of help to move to a new vendor. No response to emails and messages.

We have moved on, and are trying to calculate how many clients were lost due to inadequate support.

If you're considering them, you should also know this address is not their office. The actual staff are based in Minsk, Belarus.

Definitely not recommended.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

The beginning of the project when I was apparently still a valued client.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

The complete abandonment us at a very critical time for our business. If they didn't want to support us or respond to us in a timely manner, have the decency to say it in time for your client to make other arrangements.
