Please introduce your company and your role within the company.
I’m the CEO of *instinctools which is a software development provider. It’s an outsourcing company that delivers custom software and mobile projects worldwide to customers. We provide comprehensive consulting and implementation services in the areas of application development, Content Management solutions and tools for topic-based, structured content (DITA).
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile application.
We spend most of our times on integration activities. It is important to integrate the application components and this is the most important parameter for us.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile application?
It all depends on the nature of tasks of a project. For example, if we talk about tasks of a project with a huge set of business rules, we have to spend more time on the back-end functionalities. However, if the UI/UX is complicated for a particular application or it is being made for presentations, we spend more time on developing the front end.
What is your company’s business model– in-house team or third party vendors / outsourcing?
*instinctools is a subcontract partner for its clients. We support three main partnership models: Fixed Price, Time & Material, and Dedicated Team. In their frames, we assign our in-house staff to work on customers’ projects.
How is your business model beneficial, from a value addition perspective, to your clients as compared to other companies' models?
Our various partnership models make it beneficial for our clients in the following ways-
- It allows forming a dedicated team way faster than hiring professionals in house;
- Team scaling can be performed in less time than doing that in-house;
- When working with us, our partners don’t have to waste money for official place, taxes, and other expenses connected with job placement. Thus, in most cases, co-work appears to be more beneficial than partnership with local specialists;
- We render a large number of services, and customers can address us with multiple issues without having to work with many vendors.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
It mostly depends on the target audience of an application. For example, in some countries, iPhones are used most often, while Android is more widespread in other places. For the moment, Android and iOS are the most popular platforms.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
It is better to start on iPhone platform, because fewer devices have to be supported, and it requires fewer versions as well.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
Actually, the choice of platform depends on numerous factors, and we make final decision only after doing final specification. Hybrid applications require more time for development, stabilization and support, although they realize prototypes faster. In general, native platform takes less time for development, so we prefer this platform.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
There are various factors to be considered before deciding the cost of a mobile application, such as-
- Business Goals
- Target Audience
- Work Scope
- What is included in the task (development, project management, testing, design, business analytics?)
- Following Technical Support
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients?
It is defined by the partnership model that the client signs up for. For Time & Material and Dedicated Team, we practice 100% post payment for the number of hours worked in the recent month. For Fixed Price projects, it may be either 100% post payment after acceptance of the work, or (if work scope is considerable) payment can be divided into several transactions.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Usually, our minimal budget requirement is $5000. However, we are open for dialogue, and if the partnership is really interesting, or there are some other strong reasons for the budget, we can take on low-profile projects.
What was the cost bracket of mobile app projects your organization did in 2015?
The projects that we catered to in 2015 were between the range of US $5000 to US $150000.
Which business model do you suggest your clients use to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
There are several ways that we could suggest to generate revenue from mobile applications-
- Using in-app advertising
- Make application fee-based
- Integrate purchases within an application
However, we have created several mobile applications with the purpose of it being used by clients, which meant they were not intended to bring financial profit.
