Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company.

Dot Com Infoway is an award-winning mobile and web solutions company offering a comprehensive suite of web and mobile services, to a global clientele since two decades.
As the Managing Director and CEO of Dot Com Infoway, apart from overseeing the day-to-day activities of the company, I perceive my role to be that of a visionary. Having grown the company from 5-members to 125+ employees in a span of 17+ years, today, I am focused on bringing in new technologies in our ambit while maintaining the qualitative edge we are known for in the market.

What was the idea behind starting this organization?

More than a decade ago, I foresaw how the internet and mobile technology would shape commerce as well as our daily lives. Being instrumental in bringing Internet access to Madurai in the late 90s, I decided to tap into the wonderful opportunities presented by the world wide web through a new IT company, Dot Com Infoway. Today, DCI offers unmatched expertise and business insights to help clients develop their apps, ideas and businesses to their max potential with the help of the technology provided by us.

What are your company’s business model–in-house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?

We work on a model that is a combination of in-house and outsourcing.

How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?

At DCI, we provide both in-house and outsourcing solutions to our global clients, helping them choose the most cost-effective models, ensuring better ROI and overall efficiency. Besides, instead of working on a specific requirement, we invest a lot of time and energy in understanding our clients’ businesses holistically to deliver solutions that give the best possible results. We offer high-quality services through expert resources at very competitive prices, making us unique in the market.

What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?

We primarily cater to the industries such as E-Commerce, Education, Social media, Healthcare, Location tracking, Business-oriented.
Yes, we see a lot of repetitive clients. Statistically, 40% of clients we serve are repetitive at any given point in time.

Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame for developing a mobile app.

Well, the time principal parameters in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app are use cases, functional points as well as complexity.

How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?

On an average, we take 3-5 months to develop the front and back end of a mobile app; the time requisition greatly depends upon the complexity of the requirements.

What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?

We consider a host of factors such as requisite effort, scalability, reusability, compatibility and environmental considerations for selecting the right platform for the mobile application.

Which platform do you suggest your clients, to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?

We deal with both Android and iOS. Again, we consider a host of factors (mentioned above) including the geographical area of the client, before we suggest a platform to our clients.

Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?

The choice of the platform depends on the market you aim to capture. Once we engage with a client, we suggest them which platform would work best for them, after understanding their business requirement in detail. Besides, it is also important to consider the factors listed in [8] above before selecting the right platform for your business.

What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?

We take into consideration various factors before deciding the cost of a mobile application such as Complexity, Supported platforms (iOS /Android/ Windows phone), Online / offline app, Native / Cross platforms, Universal app

What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)

We generally adopt 3 billing methods i.e Fixed cost, Pay per milestone, Pay per month (if it is a dedicated model)

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?

According to our pricing model, we take $ 5000 as the minimum budgeted project.

What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2016?

We did projects ranging between USD 5,000-125,000

Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?

With mobile apps having forayed into every aspect of our lives, businesses can generate a lot of revenue from thoughtfully-designed, engaging apps. Mostly, new businesses and developers choose the free model, offering their apps for free, in order to aggregate a larger client base.
However, a more popular model is the freemium model that offers basic services to all the users for free and charges the users for premium services. It is also possible to have a freemium model with in-app purchases, such as the popular game; Candy Crush. Besides, many apps use in-app advertising to generate revenue. This is one model with huge potential as developers can provide their apps free to the users, collecting valuable data that can be sold to advertisers who use this data to create tailored ads for their audience. The team at DCI advises each client on a case-to-case basis after ensuring maximum ROI for each customer. It also depends on the nature of business and requirement.
