The Perfect Mobile OS Doesn't Exist, Let's Compare iOS and Android

This is somewhere we believe, the line “there are two types of people” fits perfectly. But is it so?

Most people we know have switched between iOS and Android back and forth, to have a taste of both. And, there is no speculation about who stays where, but it’s generic that people who switch once, never turn around. There are benefits to both, and disadvantages creep in at times too. In the end, it doesn’t even matter, as it remains your personal choice. We just made this list to help you decide, and tell you the advantages and disadvantages to both the OSs.

Both OSs are great and are in their own way, perfect for everyone who prefers generic use. The difference still comes down to a lot though, let’s begin with iOS vs Android.

1. First thing's first, the price.

iPhones and iPads are priced at the top segment of devices, but the flagship Android devices come close too. We automatically compare the flagships when we consider iOS vs Android, simply because iPhones put every Android phone to dust when it comes to performance benchmarks.

The exceptions, in this case, are the phones from Oneplus, their phones usually are cheaper and comparably faster than the higher priced Samsung’s, but still doesn't come even close to the iPhone. People who are using Android has loved Oneplus phones since it first debuted, at that time it was less than half the price of other flagships.

In the case of iPhones, you get what you pay for. Some people call them overpriced and can tolerate a bit of lag in daily usage at a lower price. If you are into budget phones, the choices left with you are either Android phones or previous generations of the iPhone. Apple simply can’t compete in terms of pricing, as many companies offer many times lower price for their lower category Android phones.

2. UI/UX

Both the operating systems are smooth, but iPhones wins the race in this one. It’s for the sheer optimization that these beasts offer, there is virtually no lag in touch response or display refresh rate. Every single application that is built for both operating systems, is uber-optimized for iOS. Android on the counter offers massive customization options.

While all you can do on iPhones is change your wallpapers, you can change every single thing in an Android phone. Again, it depends on person to person, but with the time you may after all get bored with iOS’s same design and icons. It comes down to customizations vs smooth OS, it’s up to you to choose.

3. Exclusive apps

Recently, Call of Duty launched a beta version of its mobile game, it isn’t an official release and is downloadable to people who pre-registered for it. Even though the iOS beta version may be out there, you simply can’t download it on your iOS device. While you can obviously, download it on your Android devices, same is with beta versions of other apps.

In iOS, however, there are a lot of exclusive apps compared to Android. It can be speculated that Android actually doesn’t have exclusive apps at all, which makes it a clear win for iOS in this one. Be it games or productivity apps, if you can wait for the official release, you will get it in iOS, along with a lot more exclusive apps which you won't get at all if you use Android.

4. Security/ Privacy

The invasions have been many, countless to be honest. But what we love about iOS is, they don’t let apps take too much information by default. Every 3 out of 5 people are concerned about mobile apps accessing their personal data. You won’t be prompted to give permissions for things that aren’t necessary for the app to use. And there is a tougher procedure and monitoring to put an app in Appstore, compared to Playstore.

Many high-risk apps currently prevail in the Play store, making it considerably riskier compared to the Appstore. Also, since Android allows downloading and installing apps from sources other than the Play store, it makes it easier for hackers to pin you down in Android, than in iOS.

5. Renew cycle

iPhones are renewed by Apple every year, usually in September. Android devices keep on coming every now and then, as they're a lot more companies making Android phones. We see an up-flow of Android phones during the Mobile World Congress, but you can still pretty much expect a good Android phone coming out every other month.

If you like to change your phone twice a year, you simply can’t work it out with Apple. Apple usually keeps the same design with minor changes for years, so people usually upgrade their iPhones every 2 years or so. You also get a lot more design options and features with Android smartphones if you choose to use it over iOS.

But, we must tell you one thing, iPhones are pretty durable and can spend 2 years like a breeze. Android phones, on the other hand, burn out young or their already flawed OS slows whenever a new update arrives. Also, Apple makes iOS updates work for devices which are even 4 years old, without slowing them down. On your best bet in Android, you can from a good manufacturer,  get 2 years of support and OS updates on your phone.

6. Bloatware

Let’s be honest, nobody loves those stock apps. Both phones give an option to disable apps you don’t want, you won’t see them and problem solved. But since Android is open source and a lot of mobile companies use it, you will find a huge spectrum of bloatware and UI/UX issues with most manufacturers. Most Android phones come with irrational and wasteful bloatware, while many apps that iPhones come with are usable and of necessity.

Conclusion

Our phones are an integral part of our daily lives, for the fact that it is the only thing we take everywhere with us. And in some cases, we use our phone for more than other things in our life. So, buying a phone is a big decision, and you shouldn’t get stuck with things you can’t tolerate. The basic difference is, Android lags, and iOS is monotonous.

If you are looking to spend 1000$, you have an option to choose from the best of the best. When you are spending this kind of money on a phone, we believe, performance issues shouldn’t be in question, and that's where iOS delivers.

If you absolutely love Android or looking for a switch, we recommend you go with the Oneplus, they are at the top of the game in the Android department.
