While going to college in Oklahoma City, Tim Bales got his real estate license and sold houses. He graduated from Southern Nazarene University in 1986. A year later he started his property tax consulting business.

As a compliment to the property tax business, in 1992 Tim started a commercial real estate research company, Data Dynamics. Most of Oklahoma City’s biggest commercial real estate brokerages and investors became his clients. In 1998 he sold the research company to The Journal Record, Oklahoma City’s business newspaper.
