These researchers introduced Poly-Coder in March 2022 as a multilingual code generation model based on OpenAI's GPT-2 architecture. It was trained on a dataset of 249GB of code spanning 12 programming languages, including C, Python, JavaScript, and Java. Notably, Poly-Coder demonstrated superior performance in generating C code compared to other models, including Codex.​
