Will first settled in Vermont in 1976. He started his legal career as a state prosecutor, handling a wide range of cases including homicide, sexual assault, armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary, illegal drugs, and DUI, conducting well over 100 jury trials and multiple appeals.
After opening a private law practice in Brattleboro in 1985, Will represented scores of indigent defendants as assigned counsel for the Defender General, successfully defending persons charged with major felonies, including murder, sexual assault, burglary, and drug sales and possession, successfully moving to have illegally seized evidence and confessions thrown out of court, having charges dismissed by the court or prosecutor, negotiating a favorable plea agreement resulting in reduced charges and sentences, or securing acquittals following a jury trial.
