Review Summary

At Layertech, choosing the correct reporting software for your business can be very tricky. There are quite a few off-the-shelf solutions which are packed with different features and functionality. For some of our customers that don't require a bespoke solution we have found that Mode works very well.

Building custom reports and dashboard with useful metrics on Mode is extremely easy with their intuitive user interface. The majority of our clients utilise a SQL based database and it's possible to produce reports by simply writing a SQL query.

On various occasions some reports have a level of intricacy which a SQL query cannot handle. In this particular case, it's possible to utilise the Notebook feature on Mode which enables you to write code in Python capable of performing that level of enhanced analysis that is required.

Finally, the only aspect to take into consideration is the fact that an external third party is accessing your database. I would advise setting up a read-only replica which Mode has exclusive access to as using a production database is not ideal or secure this way.
