BREED undertook a feasibility study in 1994 which demonstrated the viability of an incubator to focus on nurturing small and developing businesses in order that they may develop entrepreneurial skills, become self-sustaining and meet the needs of their own customer base. The BREED Business Centre was established in 1996 after being successful in receiving a grant of $500,000 to refurbish an unused TAFE building into 34 modern offices, reception and administration. Since then the BBC has been providing office accommodation for start-up and small businesses. As BREED developed it took the opportunity to work within the youth, education and community sectors delivering programs to assist student’s transition to post school education, training and employment. In 2010 BREED secured funding to deliver the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) School Business Community Partnership Broker Program as part of the National Partnership for Youth Attainment and Transitions.
