Executive Interview of Exoft

Oleg Maykher
CEO
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
Exoft is a software house, technology partner for all-size companies. Our team of IT professionals first met together in 2013. Today, we have vast experience in developing software systems of different types and levels of complexity. We provide full specter services from idea validation and prototyping to software engineering and post-release support.
As CEO, I’m managing and scaling the company itself. We believe technology should serve the people. My priority is to keep clients satisfied and strategy, which I see as a key to constant development and growth.
As CEO, I’m managing and scaling the company itself. We believe technology should serve the people. My priority is to keep clients satisfied and strategy, which I see as a key to constant development and growth.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
This company is an implementation of quick and quality service delivered to its customers. We don’t take everything just to earn money. Instead, we set our own priorities for the projects to achieve desired goals. When choosing the project, we are very precise. Our goal is to deliver the best results possible and achieve satisfied customers. That’s why we need to be sure that our company and its values is a perfect match for the client.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We have an in-house team only as we need to be sure that we deliver the best quality possible to our customers. Our employees are a mix of expertise, creativity, and open-mindedness. The main focus is on web and mobile development for healthcare and logistics. However, we are always ready to help startups especially those in delivery, education, and EV.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
Even if we have to do only development, we try to look at the picture in general and provide our customers with a mix of price-quality. We are developing software with having not only our direct customer but the end-user in mind. Our end products should be well received by the user and in that case, our customers will be satisfied.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
We cater to almost all industries, however, our main foci are logistics and healthcare. The majority of our customers are loyal and are retentive year after year for new projects. We work with all-Sized Businesses and have working algorithms for both startups and enterprises.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
Every mobile app is unique and it’s hard to give an exact estimation or time frame to build any system without having surface information. Of course, we have defined algorithms and try to stick to SDLC. Before every project, we do discovery to estimate correctly hours and the proper price, team size, and delivery time-frame.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
As I mentioned before, everything depends on the mobile app complexity. It is based on the main parameters: design, features, architecture, technology stack, integrations, etc. One button app and Uber-like app are very different, you know.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
We do recommend our clients do both iOS and Android apps. We can build Windows Phone apps as well, however, before we do small market research if it’s necessary.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
Again, I would recommend building both at once. The best solution is to do cross-platform. It can be a great option for businesses to reduce time to market and cut costs.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
Android and iOS – there is no better option, because it’s just to be matched with two main user groups. Native is good, when you need a full product launch to be sure everything is smooth, the hybrid is also a nice idea and if you are working on MVP it is great to validate your idea and cut costs.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
We need to understand client expectations about functionality and our responsibilities. Sometimes they might have the only idea in mind, others may come with a ready-built design. The cost will be different.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We offer our clients 3 cooperation models: Fixed Price (we can break it into few payments), Time & Material (you pay per hour spent on your project), Scope Based (by milestones).
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Our minimum budget to start is approx. 10 000$. It is a sum required to build a non-complex mobile app or web-based tool.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2019?
Most of our projects are under NDA and unfortunately we can state it here. As we work with startups and enterprises we have those who spent our min. required budget and those who pay a hundred thousand.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
I think in 2020 freemium or subscription-based models are the best ones. It is quite strange to pay for the app once and be bombed with hundreds of ads.
