Explainsalot

Explainsalot is an animation studio based in Utrecht and ’s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Since 2013, founders Bob Versteeg and Edwin van der Schoot have been helping organizations turn complex, technical, social or abstract information into clear and engaging animation.

We create custom explainer animations (explanimations) for organizations that need to explain something, introduce change, clarify a process or make an important message easier to understand and remember. From the first ideas and script to illustration, information design and animation, clients work directly with the makers.

Our approach starts with getting to the core of the message. What should people understand, remember or do after watching the animation? From there, we develop the story, visual style and animation format that best fit the audience and communication goal.

We work with organizations in the public sector, healthcare, education, safety, agri & food, construction and infrastructure, financial services, professional services, foundations and NGOs. Our animations are used for both internal and external communication.

Explainsalot is primarily active in the Netherlands and Belgium, but we also work internationally with organizations across Europe and beyond.

Our expertise includes custom animation, explainer videos, 2D animation, whiteboard animation, motion graphics, visual storytelling, information design, infographics, data visualization, e-learning content, instructional animation and other forms of visual communication.

Our work has been used by organizations including EO, NPO, IFAD, UN, Wageningen University & Research, Erasmus University, ING, Rabobank, ProRail, Heijmans and the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, as well as hospitals, schools, municipalities and other public and private organizations.

The name Explainsalot is a playful reference to the English expression “explains a lot” — something you say when new information suddenly makes a confusing situation clear and everything starts to make sense.

That moment of clarity is exactly what we want to create with our animations: from “Huh?” to “Aha!”
