Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
FATbit Technologies was founded in 2004 with an aim to offer high-performance solutions. We excel at providing business growth solutions to startups and SMBs, which includes several eCommerce solutions and a wide range of services such as website design, web and mobile app development, and digital marketing.

Being a startup-friendly organization, we have molded our prices in such a manner that is meaningful for an entrepreneur. By providing feature-rich ecommerce solutions like YoKart and YoYumm, we try to decrease the time to market (TTM), which is important for competitive advantage.

In our mission to continue helping startups grow, we recently launched four additional services - competitive analysis, unique value proposition analysis, business model analysis, and go-to-market strategy analysis.

As the CEO and Founder of FATbit Technologies, client satisfaction remains my top priority. Other priorities include strategy creation and marketing.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
I started using the Internet around 2002 and realized the opportunity it presented for startups and entrepreneurs. At that time, the Internet was revolutionizing how people interact, transact, educate, and entertain.

Shortly after that period, I educated myself on programming and founded FATbit with main focus on e-commerce. In the past few years, we have developed more than ten ecommerce solutions, out of which, YoKart has been praised by many industry experts.
What is your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We have an in-house team of experienced professionals, which includes business analysts, designers, developers, quality analysts, and marketers. After creating a diverse portfolio with a global clientele, we decided to expand the team to maintain quality standards and delivery commitments. As of now, we have two offices in India and more than 100 team members.

We believe in “serving with a smile” and have processes in place to ensure superior client satisfaction. A dedicated business analyst is appointed to each client, who coordinates with different departments to satisfy the client’s project requirements. At each step, the client is provided guidance to help him/her make an informed decision.

We also welcome resellers/partners from different countries and offer white-label solutions.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
Our startup-friendly solutions are primarily aimed at situations where time to market is important. We use agile methodology for development and offer services (UVP analysis, GTM strategy, and more.) that are centered around an entrepreneur who wants to establish his/her startup. We also provide consultation to clients who require optimization in their startup’s business model and revenue stream.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive?
We focus primarily on building eCommerce web and mobile apps - marketplace and aggregators like Amazon, Uber, InstaCart, GrubHub, etc. A big portion of our revenue is generated from repeat business, and we have heard words of appreciation for our custom work as well.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a web app.
Determining the time frame for delivery varies from project to project and is dependent on the business logic of the system to be developed. Since we already have many turnkey solutions, delivery time is short, if the requirements of a project fall within the existing features of our turnkey solution. Timeline of 3-5 days is required to deliver the solution on client-server if one of our turnkey solutions is used.

If customizations are required in the base product, the following factors come into play:
● The level and complexity of changes to be done at the code level.
● Preferred methodology for the project - waterfall or agile.
● 3rd party integrations to be done into the system.
● Unique features which are a need of the business as every business is unique.
● Reusable components which can be used.

Here are a few factors we consider before determining the time frame to deliver a project:
● Break the project down as best we can and have precise numbers.
● Brainstorm on the areas of improvement and perform R&D, if required.
● Consider multipliers such as user experience design, project management, wireframes, technical documentation, deployment, etc.

For our own internal product development, we use FDD (Feature Driven Development). We have a defined release cycle for our products, and periodically, an improved version is released.

In case the stakeholder is an evolving business with ever-changing requirements or prioritization of requirements depends upon market inputs, we assist such stakeholders with the SCRUM or hybrid approach to deliver a suitable system. Over the years, we have assisted stakeholders by delivering quality systems by following the hybrid approach making us adapt to this approach of development.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a web app?
There is no right-hand rule to predict the ratio of efforts involved in the development of the backend and frontend. Generally, it is 2:1 for the backend and frontend of the application respectively.

The time frame for backend and frontend development depends on the complexity of the business model, the size of the project as well as a roadmap of the system to be developed. In case of custom projects, the backend takes around 4-6 weeks for development and frontend around 3-4 weeks.

If the system is ever-evolving like in case of agile development, the backend and frontend will keep on evolving. Building a custom business solution may take longer to deliver the backend as compared to the frontend of the application.

By utilizing any 3rd party content management system (CMS), the turnaround time of development of the website can be reduced. But at the same time, it will limit the flexibility to achieve desired results as most CMSs are designed considering a wider audience.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a web application?
The key parameters which are considered before selecting the right platform for web application are as follows:
● Project scope, architecture, and scalability
● The budget of the client
● Technology Stack
● Dependencies on 3rd party services / APIs, if any
Which platform and technologies do you prefer to use in the development of your web apps?
We engineer, build, and deliver dynamic web solutions and mobile applications (i.e., iOS and Android) with agility to meet the changing business goals. Using 10+ years of analytical experience by our expert programmers, we have come up with our own framework.

All of our products are built on FATbit’s internal framework. The framework is PHP-based with high flexibility to develop custom web apps. It is a collection of commonly used classes & functions we use in almost all of our web application projects.

Here are a few highlights of FATbit’s code library:

● Search Class (Used to run a search with complex queries. Can be called as Query Builder)
● HTML builder class
● Form Builder Class (With client side and server side validations)
● Image resizing and handling using PHP GD
● Numerous instantly usable common functions

We are also proficient in other technology stacks/frameworks (not limited to) like Magento, Opencart, YII, CakePHP, WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. To serve better value & visibility to our customers in a competitive market, we have a forte to deliver mobile apps for iOS and Android using technologies like Java, Kotlin, ReactNative& Swift.
Do you offer website design templates or customised website design, and do you have a responsive website design?
To help our clients succeed in their business venture, it is imperative to understand the following:
● What are their target audience and their geographic market which they want to capture?
● What makes their business unique, or how are they unique from the rest of the players?

Hence, to better understand and answer the above questions, we have prepared an elaborate design questionnaire which we share with our clients. Based on the information we receive from the client, we use our design inventiveness to achieve desired results.

Today, most websites are accessed on mobile devices; hence it is important to make the website responsive. Considering the market trend and need, we design and develop all the website as responsive websites by default.
Which Content Management System do you prefer to use (Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal etc)?
We are proficient in delivering a web-based application using a content management system, e.g., Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, or similar.
Do you provide website maintenance services?
Yes, we offer website maintenance services to clients. For the first year, we offer free technical support for any issue in work delivered.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a web application?
The key factors associated with the costing of a web application are:
● Resources required to deliver the project, i.e., experience level
● Project timelines and urgency to launch the application
● The hours required to execute the project
● The complexity of the SOW to be delivered.
● The technology stack being used.
● Is the client seeking NCA or/and NDA agreements?

Being a startup-friendly organization, we have helped many entrepreneurs to launch their businesses without investing heavily on technology under Single Domain Non-Exclusive License (SDNEL) program, i.e., invest in their (the client’s) idea by reducing the total project cost.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We have flexible payment structure, and the most commonly used payment structure is pay per milestone (in phases). Other payment structures are also used, such as:
● Monthly billing for dedicated team members
● Time & Material for maintenance based projects
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Our off the shelf eCommerce solutions are available for the price range of USD 250-5000. For hiring us to customize these solutions, you need to have a budget of a minimum of 1000 USD. Our hourly billing rate ranges between USD 18-50/per hour depending upon the complexities of the project and the terms of the agreement. During the requirement gathering phase, we simplify the deliverables by converting them into sprint or milestones, which comprises features to be delivered in each sprint or milestone.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
Our client base is very wide and spread across the globe. We serve startups to billion-dollar enterprises based in 100+ countries. Considering the lifetime value, in 2018, we worked on projects ranging between 2000 USD to 250,000 USD.
