Executive Interview of Grinteq
Sergei Lakishik
CEO
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the organization.
My name is Sergei Lakishik, and I am the CEO of Grinteq - a boutique digital commerce service provider with deep technical expertise, the key partner that helps businesses implement eCommerce solutions. We are fully remote and have 70+ experts from 20+ different countries, and with our 4 on-the-ground offices, we cover North America and EMEA regions.
Working across a range of platforms, such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Magento, Shopify, and others, the Grinteq team is addressing the needs of several segments:
We help small retail companies either land or grow their business online by providing tech consulting, design, and build services to their online stores;
We help small retail companies either land or grow their business online by providing tech consulting, design, and build services to their online stores;
- We help mid-to-large online marketplaces by making sure their tech can support the set business objectives, which usually requires specific tech stack expertise;
- We assist other large B2B eCommerce agencies with the supply of rare tech skillsets to reduce their operational and labor costs;
- Finally, we work with B2B products within the digital commerce area as their reliable partner in delivery, understanding their business objectives, and providing value across SDLC.
As a CEO, I am responsible for managing Grinteq’s general operations - I supervise the company's strategic and business aspects.
What is the story behind starting this company?
Grinteq was born 6 years ago. There were just 3 of us: myself and 2 co-founders - Nick and Mika. We started it as a software development business and grew pretty quickly. Several years ago, we realized we had a fabulous pool of professionals within eCommerce development, a good hand of leading commerce platforms, and a deep understanding of the eCommerce ecosystem and which parts of it are relevant to specific clients. That's when we repositioned ourselves as digital commerce developers, all about technology within the growing eCommerce industry.
A fun fact - we were fully remote from the beginning before it went mainstream during the Pandemic. And now, we are a team of focused, agile, and super-friendly engineers, testers, and project managers, who love the dynamics of the industry we work in.

What are your company’s business model – in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We have an in-house team of experts who join client projects on a team extension or project basis. When clients already have a plan and a management team in place, they usually come for a specific skill set. The other part of clients who want to focus on their current business and outsource a project - come for a fully-delivered package.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
Our strongest side is our engineering team: Middle+ and Senior engineering skills in a rare tech stack with a confident track record and acclaimed technical certifications. And all this expertise comes at a price that matches clients' expectations.
Apart from that, working with Grinteq is easy: no administrative burden and bureaucracy - easy contracting, flexible hiring models, capacity scalability, and fast delivery.
We always take a partnership approach and long-term commitments - most of our clients stay with us for years.
Grinteq keeps it all under one roof - we strive to drive, care, and simplify.

What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
The industries in which we operate are Retail & Consumer Goods, Apparel & Fashion, Wholesale, IT & Services, Computer Software, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Marketing & Advertising, and Mobility - basically, anyone who is somehow connected to eCommerce. The repetitive engagements ratio is about 80%.
Please share some of the services that you offer for which clients approach you the most for?
It is the services within the Salesforce ecosystem and Salesforce Commerce Cloud in particular: consulting, implementation, customization, LINK cartridge development, Salesforce CPQ, and other Clouds (such as Marketing, Sales, and Financial Cloud) setup.
On that note, we work across the ecommerce ecosystem and see lots of requests for webstore development, implementation of desirable architectures (Headless, Composable, etc.), platform migration, payment gateway development, and even existing webstore performance optimization.

What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer’s needs and requirements?
We judge the customer satisfaction rate by their feedback during/after the engagement and what they are ready to say in their reviews on independent services review platforms, such as Goodfirms. Generally, it's 4.9-5 out of 5.
Of course, each customer gets a personalized approach. As a professional services organization, we have catered processes and assessment systems with touchpoints during the overall project length. We check and monitor whether we deliver per defined SOW, per client objectives and KPIs, and regularly gather feedback on the development and project team.

What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
When you work in the services business, you work in the "people" business. Hence, our strength is our availability to clients. Each client gets a dedicated account manager monitoring the progress and ensuring smooth delivery per requirements. For communications, progress tracking, and reporting, we either use Slack, Jira, or other tools preferred by the client - we always discuss it and set up communications standards before the beginning of the project.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
The payment structure usually depends on the engagement model: it could be either Time & Materials or Fixed-Price. The latter is common for projects with defined timelines and outcomes. We agree on the payment structure during contracting and either split the payments per project stage or follow monthly invoicing and billing - as per individual agreements with clients.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
This one is not easy to cover as different projects require different skillset - and the monetary value differs, too, of course.
If we talk about a development project - we work with a minimum budget of $10K. However, some clients need just some Support & Maintenance for their online store or additional design elements - it's an entirely different story.
I wouldn't focus here on a specific number: each client has very different needs, and there is a massive gap between developing, say, a payment integration for Salesforce and launching a basic webstore on Webflow or Shopify.

What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2021?
Following the previous answer, the min and max pricing would be very different: from $5K to $350K for projects, depending on client needs and requirements, and even up to $600K for team extension services - if used regularly.
Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?
Great question! It reminds me of a similar one during a classic interview - "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?"
As a company, we are ambitious - with the defined, planned growth of 20% each year. We are and will continue to be a reliable partner for software delivery within the eCommerce segment.
What will probably change - is the technology stack we work with. Everyone who works in eCommerce comes across new commerce platform launches, the emergence of new architectures to address rising business needs, and even the buzzing eCommerce in the Metaverse. This will require forward thinking and a proactive approach, which we gladly take daily.
