John Good Group

The Good family has a long and active association with the maritime world, dating back to 1813 when, as a boy of 11, John Good joined the sailing brig ‘British Volunteer’ and began a career at sea.

200 years later, this remains at the heart of our activities as the John Good Group has developed into one of the country’s largest independent shipping, logistics and corporate travel companies in the UK.

After 20 years at sea on ships trading primarily in the Baltic, Mediterranean and the White Sea, John earned his Master’s Certificate and returned to Yorkshire in 1833 to set up a Ship Chandlers, Agents and Brokers business in Hull, using the connections he had developed with ship owners in Finland and the Baltic states.
