Our founder was a Big-Four senior manager moonlighting as a friend’s bookkeeper. The friend ran a candle company doing $80k/month on Shopify and couldn’t figure out why she was always short on cash.

The answer wasn’t in any accounting textbook. It was in the way Shopify reported gross sales before refunds, the way her supplier billed her in two currencies, and the way her bookkeeper expensed inventory the day it was bought instead of the day it sold.
