MacDonald’s Transport was established in 1933 by Mr Hermanus Johannes (Mac) MacDonald. The business had a modest start and focussed on the transportation of livestock in the Northern Cape.

Mac’s eldest son, Mr Coenrath Frederik (Freddie) MacDonald, had a keen interest in the business from an early age. His love affair with everything truck and transport related, began while spending time with his father at the business; which was run from the family’s small holding in Upington. While at school, he would often join truck drivers delivering loads over weekends and holidays and was fascinated with the business. As soon as Mr. CF MacDonald finished school, he qualified as a diesel mechanic and started working at the family business. He worked hard and did everything, from servicing the vehicles, marketing the business, delivering loads and everything in between.
