In the late 70s my parents migrated from India to the United States in hopes of seeking opportunities for our family. My parents began their lives in a small town in central California working at Foster Farms, slaughtering and packing chickens. I recall being in India while my parents were in the US and family and neighbors in India would tell my sibling and I how they admired my parents and their wealth in America. In 1982, when I came to America I came to realize that my parents did not have money growing on trees and in fact they were working long hours with minimal compensation, $3.22 an hour to be exact. However, my parents never showed a sign of financial or emotional hardship. Their hard work and dedication to fulfill the American dream paid off as my sibling and I were able to carry their values into our own lives. Today, I am a successful entrepreneur because I understand what it means to have the opportunity to live the American Dream.
