NUS Consulting Group
We Improve Your Business’ Performance
NUS Consulting Group was founded in 1933 by Theodore Maynard. His concept was simple. Since no law required a utility company to place customers on the most cost effective rate, energy intensive businesses needed someone to assist them in analyzing and optimizing the available tariff options.
Over the next 40 years, NUS grew to become the preeminent energy rate and tariff analysis specialist firm in the United States, providing services to some of the largest and most well-known companies, including John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company. As the company grew, it became clear the services NUS was providing in the United States were also valuable to businesses abroad. Starting in 1964, NUS started opening offices and providing services outside of North America. Over the next 10 years NUS opened international offices in Europe, Africa and Australia
In the late 1980s, early 1990s, the energy markets in a number of countries began transitioning from regulated monopolies to competitive markets. The opening of energy markets provided consumers the ability to competitively negotiate their energy supply agreements but shifted certain risks (supplier choice, contract structure, price volatility) to the consumer. To assist consumers in managing these risks, NUS expanded its services to include energy sourcing and risk management.
In the past decade, it has become clear that carbon emissions are having a detrimental impact on our environment. As a result, many governments and forward-thinking businesses have made conservation and sustainability a priority. In order to support energy intensive businesses implement conservation, sustainability and CSR programs, NUS developed a robust on-line energy data management system including advanced reporting and analytical tools.
Today, NUS is an international consulting firm employing over 350 employees in 19 offices around the globe, managing over $5 billion in energy expenditure per annum. NUS provides consumers a wide range of services including invoice processing, payment data feed, NUSdirect, procurement, risk management, budgeting and carbon emissions monitoring, reporting and compliance. For over 80 years, consumers have relied on NUS as an independent and trusted advisor specializing in the provision of energy management and sustainability solutions.
