In 2023, we produced Memorial of Kutaisi, a full-length documentary film that narrates the story of the Glory Memorial, a monument unveiled in 1981 in Kutaisi and demolished in 2009 to make space for Georgia’s Parliament building. The project required a comprehensive approach—from historical research and cinematography to restoration of archival footage, original soundtrack creation, and innovative graphic design. The film explores the monument’s rise and fall, blending historical documentation with artistic storytelling to deliver a powerful visual and emotional narrative.

The client’s goal was to produce a historically accurate yet visually engaging documentary that would resonate with audiences on multiple levels. They sought a team capable of managing every aspect of production, from concept to completion, while incorporating immersive elements such as silent cinema aesthetics and restored archival visuals. As the creative authors of the project, our mission was to reconstruct the monument’s legacy through compelling interviews, artistic visuals, and a modernized cinematic approach.

Our contribution to the project was comprehensive and multifaceted. We planned and executed the entire production process, conducting shoots across two key cities. Locations were carefully selected to reflect the historical significance of the monument and the communities around it. Logistical and technical preparations ensured high production quality, with professional lighting, sound recording, and camera work. Interviews with critical figures, including the monument’s project leader, a former mayor of Kutaisi, and a local historian, offered valuable insights into the monument’s creation, demolition, and cultural impact. These interviews became the emotional core of the film.

A key challenge lay in processing archival footage, much of which was damaged or degraded. We employed artificial intelligence to restore these visuals, meticulously recovering their detail and bringing them to life in high definition. This process seamlessly integrated archival material with newly filmed content, preserving the authenticity of historical events. Silent cinema elements were another signature feature of the film. Custom-designed intertitles, styled to evoke early 20th-century aesthetics, delivered contextual storytelling during wordless sequences, blending modern production techniques with vintage cinematic language.

The film’s auditory experience was equally significant. Our audio engineering team composed six original music pieces, combining electronic and post-punk elements to reflect the film’s tone and themes. The soundtrack underscored silent segments, enhancing their emotional gravity and immersing viewers in the film’s atmosphere. The music was crafted to be both haunting and meditative, complementing the visuals with precision.

Once the film was complete, we designed and executed its marketing campaign to ensure visibility and engagement. The documentary’s reception exceeded expectations, sparking widespread discussions across various communities. Its emotionally charged subject matter and artistic execution ignited debates, with responses ranging from praise to controversy. The film resonated so deeply with the local audience that it inspired a public petition advocating for the monument’s restoration. This reaction underscored the documentary’s cultural and social impact, as it not only raised awareness but also catalyzed action.

Memorial of Kutaisi remains one of our most ambitious and rewarding projects, highlighting our ability to blend research, artistry, a nd technical expertise to produce a film of lasting significance. By reviving lost visuals, incorporating modern production techniques, and crafting an immersive auditory experience, we created a documentary that preserves history while inspiring dialogue. Its success is a testament to the power of storytelling and our team’s ability to deliver meaningful, high-impact projects that bridge the past and present.

The soundtracks for Odyssey: Sakutaiso are an integral part of the game’s identity, seamlessly blending music, poetry, and gameplay to elevate it into a cultural art project. Created for a mobile game trilogy that celebrates the historical and artistic essence of Kutaisi, these compositions transcend typical gaming soundtracks, becoming standalone works of art that captured hearts and ears beyond the game’s audience.

The client’s goal was to develop original music that not only complemented the game’s themes but also deepened the player’s emotional engagement. Odyssey: Sakutaiso was designed as an immersive artistic experience, fusing visual storytelling, gameplay, and sound. The music needed to reflect each chapter’s unique narrative while standing on its own as culturally significant, memorable pieces. The project sought to create a rich and cohesive atmosphere where sound, visuals, and narrative would come together as a unified masterpiece.

We composed three unique tracks, each tailored to a specific chapter of the game, using Ableton Live to produce high-quality sound design and recording. Each piece not only enhances the game’s experience but also incorporates original Georgian poetry to establish deeper cultural resonance. The result is an intricate fusion of music genres and narrative elements, balancing traditional influences with modern production techniques.

The first soundtrack, Samdumaro, is an ethno-electronic composition that accompanies the game’s opening chapter, which is inspired by ancient myths and stormy seas. Its haunting, atmospheric arrangement mirrors the sense of mystery and determination in the narrative. The lyrics are an evocative Georgian poem, rich in metaphors of silence, movement, and timeless struggles. The poetry elevates the soundtrack, turning it into a contemplative and powerful sonic journey.

The second soundtrack, Photons, embraces an electronic style with an introspective and poetic narrative. The poem reflects on themes of urban solitude, light, and time, exploring the emotional contrasts of warmth and coldness—deeply resonant with Kutaisi’s cultural and seasonal identity. The music pairs minimalist electronic beats with reflective, spoken-word poetry, creating a deeply personal and immersive experience. This composition draws listeners into a contemplative space, much like a wandering ghost in the city it celebrates.

The final track, pOST pUNKISH ghame, is a post-punk piece that closes the trilogy with an energetic, soul-stirring arrangement. The lyrics, vivid and expressive, describe a restless night’s journey, combining abstract imagery with raw emotion. This composition is simultaneously dark and uplifting, bringing to life the protagonist’s struggles and the game’s deeper artistic tones. Its rhythm and dynamic progression embody the urgency and movement of the game’s final chapter, leaving a lasting emotional impact on players and listeners.

The success of these soundtracks was nothing short of extraordinary. Beyond their in-game role, the music gained widespread recognition as a cultural phenomenon. The compositions were released as a small standalone album that quickly resonated with a broader audience. These tracks became iconic, regularly played in local Kutaisi cafes, bars, and through the headphones of the city’s youth, creating an emotional bond that extended far beyond the game. They transformed Odyssey: Sakutaiso into more than just a game; they helped establish it as a multi-dimensional art project that integrated sound, visuals, and storytelling in perfect harmony.

Each composition demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship, originality, and cultural significance, showcasing our expertise in sound design, composition, and audio engineering. The soundtracks not only enhanced the gameplay experience but also became a bridge between art, technology, and tradition, proving that music can play a pivotal role in elevating a project into something extraordinary.

Odyssey: Sakutaiso is a trilogy of mobile games celebrating the cultural and artistic essence of Kutaisi, one of Georgias most historically rich cities. Combining unique illustrations and diverse musical compositions, it stands as the most ambitious digital art project in Georgian history. The game earned international acclaim as a finalist at the 2024 Central and Eastern European Game Awards (CEEGA), where it secured second placea historic achievement for the Caucasus region.

The client sought an innovative, engaging game that would highlight Kutaisis history and culture in a universally appealing way. We envisioned a trilogy, each chapter capturing a distinct artistic epoch of the city through unique visuals, narratives, and gameplay.

The first chapter, inspired by the Argonauts myth, features an aesthetic reminiscent of Asian puppet theater. Players guide the Argo ship through stormy seas in a theatrical setting, collecting coins symbolizing the Golden Fleece. The second chapter explores 19th- and 20th-century Kutaisi, with Picassos Boy running through watercolor-illustrated streets, collecting golden hats and exploring landmarks. The third chapter honors painter Petre Otskheli, where the Winged Painter navigates surreal night skies, unlocking abilities in a dreamlike setting.

Each chapters soundtrack complements its theme, ranging from ethno-electronic compositions to postmodern poetry and haunting post-punk scores. These tracks have gained independent recognition, resonating as cultural phenomena beyond the games.

Within two months of release, Odyssey: Sakutaiso ranked second to fifth in global mobile game charts, setting regional records. Its CEEGA recognition showcased it as a groundbreaking cultural and gaming achievement. Hailed as both a cultural masterpiece and a tourist attraction, the trilogy blends art, culture, and technology, setting new standards for digital storytelling.

Gaming

Chiora is an arcade-style mobile game that seamlessly blends vintage Georgian culture with contemporary digital art. Created as a vibrant homage to the country’s rich printing history, the game breathes new life into historical typographic materials, including posters, letters, documents, and theater advertisements from the last century. To further enhance its cultural resonance, an original musical composition was crafted specifically for the game, merging traditional Georgian elements with modern electronic beats.

The client’s vision was to develop a project that would be both culturally significant and widely engaging. They sought an innovative way to revive and reinterpret historical printing materials, weaving the nostalgia of past eras into a modern, interactive format. The challenge was to present this cultural heritage in a way that appealed to audiences of all ages and backgrounds while maintaining accessibility and universal appeal. The chosen medium—a mobile game—offered the perfect platform for achieving this goal, combining interactivity, artistic expression, and cultural storytelling.

Our team undertook this ambitious project by transforming a vast collection of historical artifacts into a cohesive and visually captivating game world. We sourced over 600 printed documents from the Georgian National Archives, including maps, letters, posters, advertisements, and illustrations. These materials were meticulously digitized, dissected into individual components, and reimagined as entirely new artistic elements. Every aspect of the game’s visual design—from the skies and landscapes to the buildings, obstacles, and even the protagonist—was created using collages of these digitized materials. This approach resulted in a striking postmodern aesthetic, where the historical seamlessly intertwines with the contemporary.

The gameplay was designed to be inclusive and engaging for all users, regardless of age or gaming experience. We chose an endless runner mechanic, where players guide a paper bird through a visually rich and dynamic world inspired by Georgian streets brought to life with vintage typographic designs. The bird must navigate around buildings, hot air balloons, and iconic characters from classic Georgian cinema, all while collecting vintage Georgian coins. These coins serve a dual purpose: they enhance the player's score and provide an opportunity to continue the game after an inevitable collision with an obstacle.

To complement the visual and interactive experience, we created a unique soundtrack that reflects the game’s cultural depth. We integrated recordings of historical significance, such as the speech of Noe Zhordania, a prominent leader from the First Georgian Republic, and audio recitations of poems by renowned Georgian poets. These were skillfully layered into an atmospheric electronic soundtrack enriched with traditional Georgian musical elements. The result is an auditory experience that is as immersive as it is culturally resonant, amplifying the game’s emotional and nostalgic appeal.

Chiora stands as a monumental achievement in the history of Georgian digital art. It is one of the country’s first fully-fledged mobile games and has been widely acclaimed as a masterpiece of digital creativity. The public was particularly captivated by its postmodern artistic style, which brilliantly revitalized Georgian vintage culture for a modern audience. The game received high praise from the National Tourism Administration, which recognized its potential as a pioneering example of cultural projects realized through cutting-edge technology. This success has inspired a new tradition of cultural preservation and innovation in Georgia, demonstrating how technology can bridge the past and the present in a way that is both meaningful and transformative. Today, Chiora continues to resonate as a shining example of how digital mediums can be used to preserve and celebrate cultural heritage in a modern, interactive format.
