Karen Bodenhorn is an accomplished business owner and health policy subject matter expert. Her career spans three decades with key leadership positions in the healthcare industry in which she worked as a lobbyist on Capitol Hill (Washington, D.C.) and founder and director for two national nonprofit organizations. Following these executive management experiences, she built two small businesses: one focused on leadership development; the other on strategic communications. Her accomplishments are substantial. As a nurse clinician, she provided primary health care to approximately 200 Peace Corps volunteers in Kabul, Afghanistan. As Vice President for lobbying firm (Capitol Associates, Inc.), she helped secure federal funding for health-related research, services for children with asthma, and recognition of the contributions of nurses to quality health care services. As Cofounder of Partnership for Prevention, she collaborated with the Board of Directors to grow an idea—prevention matters—into a national movement. As CEO of the Center for Health Improvement, she demonstrated skills in translating complex information into easily understood concepts and terminology for both online and print publications. Together, these nonprofits have become significant change agents that play a key role in making disease prevention and health promotion a national priority.
