The company was initially founded in 2014 in Geneva, Switzerland, by a trio of interaction designers who pioneered in the AR/VR space by working closely with companies such as Facebook, Google and HTC to build interactive experience that won awards around the globe. In 2018, apelab made available a beta of their Software Tools under the name SpatialStories. After seeing how many teachers were using SpatialStories to teach students how to build their own interactive stories, the Apelab team decided to fully integrate it in a product called Zoe
