Big Bad Byte
DevOps and performance engineering that cuts cloud costs
Overview
About Big Bad Byte
Big Bad Byte is a DevOps and performance engineering consultancy from Lithuania. We work embedded with client teams or as a self-managed pod, and our focus is simple: finding where infrastructure wastes money and throughput, then fixing the underlying causes.
Recent results include reducing a client's AWS costs by 60-70% versus the AWS-recommended architecture, then cutting the remaining monthly spend to one-half to one-third after migrating the platform to UpCloud. We operate approximately 40 blockchain nodes across multiple networks and a 20-node Proxmox environment end to end.
Our services:
- Cloud cost optimization (FinOps): rightsizing, autoscaling, architecture simplification on AWS, GCP, Azure and European clouds
- Performance engineering: load testing, JVM and database profiling, bottleneck remediation. Our team's background includes enterprise performance projects for T-Mobile, AIG and AAA
- DevSecOps and infrastructure: Kubernetes, IaC, CI/CD, observability, migrations in both directions (cloud to on-prem and back), PCI DSS compliance work, banking software deployment with the Bank of Lithuania
- Blockchain infrastructure: node setup, synchronization performance, RPC reliability
We are direct people. If a plan is technically unsound or wasteful, we say so and propose a better alternative. Clients keep working with us after contracts end, and both of our former employers became our clients.
