DevIT is a young but experienced IT company from Ukraine that is rapidly developing and helps its clients to bring their business to a new level. As Bill Gates says: “If your business is not on the Internet, then you are not in business!” - and the goal of our company is to help the client to realize his idea in the world of the Internet.My role in our company is CEO.
What is the story behind starting this company?
The history of our company is very similar to the history of many modern large successful companies - in the foundation of the creation of the company there were friends who decided to build a large corporation and started small. Thus, DevIT agency was created, which initially had 3 developers and 1 manager. After 8 years, our company has over 100 employees and we continue to grow.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Our team is always looking for the best option for implementing projects for our clients, it is important for us that the final result exceeds the client’s expectations. Therefore, in most cases, we take over the entire development cycle, starting from the analytics of the assignment/selection of technologies/creation of the UI / UX design and ending with the full implementation of the product with further support. If a client needs help that is not related to our direction - we know specialists with whom we constantly cooperate, and we can involve them in solving any kind of problem.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
I guess that most companies answer this question in this way - “We have a lot of experience in web development, our employees are very qualified, we have done many successful projects.”I believe that our biggest difference from other companies in the complex work of all our departments and the ability to communicate with the client.Our company has a product department whose specialists have developed one of the most successful applications in Shopify - LangShop.We know how to build processes and how to bring the business to a successful level, and this is the most important basis for any business.

What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
Of course, at the initial stage of each projects,  responsible person is Project Manager who always stay in touch with the client.
 If necessary, technical advice - we offer assistance from our CTO.
 In the development process - each team is assigned a Team Leader who controls the team development process.
 At the final stage, we always involve experienced Q/A specialists - who minimize the number of failures and problems on the project.It is this sequence that leads to complete satisfaction of customer requests and problems.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
The payment structure primarily depends on the type of project that the company is developing.
 Our company always tries to give the most accurate estimate of the time it will take to complete the project, but in most cases, clients can change the requirement for the project and the estimate can be changed.
 For enterprise projects - we use a biweekly billing structure with an accurate timetable for the team’s time spent.
 If the client does not change the project specifications, payment can occur after a successfully closed sprint, or after the implementation of a part of the functionality.
 We always try to find a compromise that will satisfy both sides - the client and the company.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
We have a basic budget requirement, at least the 5k+ budget in order to make sure that our expertise is worth the time we spend on the project investigation, communication, the work-scope understanding, analytics of each requirement, client story, and documentation clarifications, suggestions and much more. Sometimes it is pretty hard for us to give up the interesting project, so we do have compromises when we feel like we are the best match.

Application:  Developed translation app makes Shopify stores multilingual and multi-currency.

The app provides:

  • auto and manual translation of all types of content (text, media, etc.);

  • supports 241 languages and dialects;

  • the ability to add customisable currency switcher, import or export files;

  • translates checkout;

  • improves SEO.

This application will significantly save time by translating content automatically and it's definitely faster than the human translation. Moreover, it allows website owners to control translation and edit all elements manually if needed. 

Our team found out the best way of implementing a multilingual application for Shopify websites by using the latest technologies:

  • For backend - Laravel. 

  • For Frontend - React.JS. Also, we used Redux, Redux-thunk, Axios, Axios Retry, js-queue, Lodash.js.

  • For the convenience of using the application, the custom filters and search have been created.

  • Public Rest API/Shopify; API/Google/Bing/Yandex/DeepL API integration/ Horizon Workers

Development details: During the development process the microservice architecture was widely used. So, each logical component of the entire project is a separate, independent service.

Database: As a separate service - MySQL 5.7.

API: The API of the project is a separate service, which is powered by a technical stack: 

  • NodeJS framework; 

  • Fastify;

  • Redis technology is used for the cache functionality.

API acts as a link between the database, the Cognito authorization service (from AWS), and third-party services that provide streaming video (p1ml). 

Front-end: The front-end of the site is a SPA with SSR (Server Side Rendering), written in the NextJS framework (which uses ReactJS). To reduce the load on the server, we also additionally cache the front-end of the site itself with the help of the AWS Cloudfront service. Thus, the project uses two levels of cache: at the front-end and the API levels.

Widgets: The separate service that allows users to embed an iframe with streaming video from the site anywhere on the Internet (the list of allowed domains that can host our iframe is edited through the admin panel).  Widgets are placed in a separate service to remove the load from the main site.

Admin panel:  Also a separate service. This is a SPA written in pure ReactJS (no SSR) using the Material UI framework.

Live chat: A separate service that provides users with the ability to communicate in a general chat, send private messages to Direct and create "Rooms" according to their interests.  The chat also uses React.js and the functionality itself works on FirebaseChat.

WooCommerce helped with setting e-commerce features, development of check-out pages and provided the feel of an online store.

Gutenberg introduces a modular approach to pages and posts: each piece of content in the editor, from a paragraph to an image gallery to a headline, is its own block. It helped to make a separate approach to each piece of content and reduce the load.

Introduction: 

Vitcommerce is a B2B platform, which specialises on dropshipping services.

On the platform customers have an opportunity to parse products from Aliexpress, obtain complete information about the product, balances, reviews, etc.

The main idea of the project was not only to create a user-friendly B2B platform, but also add uniques functionality, which will allow users to have 2in1: dropshipping serves (add goods from Aliexpress) as well as the page builder, where users can create their product pages by analogy with Aliexpress. 

So, customers can create a landing page for the received product from AliExpress, change all content on the page. 

Moreover, customers have the possibility to create a product page from scratch, adding its own photos and information.

Development process:

Our team has decided work flows and come up with the strategy. Overall, the solution was immediately proposed: to parse the goods from Aliexpress, subsequently it gave more opportunities for users (change logos, reviews, prices), but also reduce the development time and save the customer's money.

Moreover, DevIT came up with an idea to add widgets to the site for more interaction with users. After a short discussion, the client appreciated this initiative.

Thus, widgets appeared on the site where the user can manage promotions, convert currency, send notifications and much more.

Necessity to create a product from scratch is a task that was set by the client later. The functionality was supposed to be the same as for products created on the basis of Aliexpress products. The task was successfully done and the project was delivered in time


Users have an ability to create the good’s page from scratch or to parse the ones from AliExpress with all photos, feedback, stars, characteristics etc. A convenient and clear admin panel was created for easy management.
