SRE for Job Platform

Dmitriy Medvedev
posted on 19/9/19
We browsed the web and searched for teams with appropriate skills and positive customer reviews. IT Svit has a great standing on Goodfirms, which helped them make it to our shortlist, along with some other teams from Ukraine. However, during the technical call they showed an in-depth understanding of the project requirements and possible complications, and explained the ways they would overcome these challenges. Deep technical expertise combined with confidence and professionalism sold them to us, and their convenient time zone was very important to us, as well as cultural fit and a possibility to meet in person should the need be.

We had to assess the current infrastructure and product development process, and find the ways to improve it or redesign it correctly from scratch. Then IT Svit team had to build the appropriate cloud infrastructure and move our workloads to AWS. Finally, they had to configure security, monitoring and smart alerting of our production environments, as well as building continuous integration and delivery workflows for our ongoing platform development.

The SRE architect analyzed the pattern of our workloads and came up with a plan to build scalable infrastructure that best suited our needs. With the help of 2 other DevOps engineers, he built a cloud Kubernetes cluster using AWS Load balancer and auto-scaling groups, hidden behind a bastion host. After that they installed and configured a monitoring/alerting system based on ELK stack and Sumologic, with automated alerting to Slack. This made their work transparent to us, as we are able to monitor their operations unobtrusively. Lastly, they configured Docker/Jenkins/ Gitlab CI/ Ansible pipeline that greatly reduced the time and effort required to deliver new product features for our developers, and helped us on some occasions, when our internal team lacked the needed skills.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

They do what they promise, they do it on time. They will walk the extra mile if needed, which saves lots of time and money in the long run. They have proactively solved several issues, which could have resulted in major problems, should they have been left unaddressed.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

They have incredible technical expertise, but it is not backed up by certifications. Should they have been AWS-certified, we would spend less time discussing their suggestions and would have shortened the migration period even further. This is not critical, however, as they have proven to be quite dependable in all things cloud-related.

Big Data Service Provision for IT Company

Denis Kuplevatskyi
posted on 11/10/19
We wanted our site to be deployed at AWS and use AWS CloudFront as CDN and AWS ML/AI services and Amazon RDS for back-end operations. However, IT Svit has calculated some expense projections and showcased that a bespoke Big Data solution would be more cost-efficient.

The main benefits they proposed were the significant decrease in false-positive error reports due to the correct ML model training, as well as the ability to launch testing in several browser-test instances simultaneously due to running them as Dockerized microservices atop a Kubernetes cluster.

IT Svit team has built a simple and elegant AWS infrastructure, using Amazon EC2 instances, S3 storage, Kubernetes cluster and Docker test-instances, PostgreSQL as the main database and Amazon RDS for scalability. Instead of using AWS AI/ML services, they deployed and trained a bespoke AI algorithm in Python, which checked the website snapshots before and after the release and highlighted the differences and errors.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

The diligent planning, testing, and tweaking performed by the IT Svit team demonstrate their dedication to the success of the project. They provide regular reports, staying in constant communication to maintain transparency around project timelines and continually improve the platform.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

English is not their native language, nor is it mine, but we were able to communicate and discuss all project-related questions with ease. A little more language fluency would definitely not hurt them.

We were looking for experience with:
Develop and implement solutions that make our network and system infrastructure continuously more secure.
Map out threats and risks and develop and implement solutions for security and privacy issues.
Test IT-infrastructure for security audits.

Prior to hiring IT Svit, I had wasted about 6 weeks on a team that I had hired to improve our security setup and scalability.
IT Svit was extremely skilled, efficient and communicated extremely well (like an extension of our team with great project management tools).
Their skills are impressive and you will not waste your time with them. In addition, they were extremely professional in their management of the tasks and the engineer that I had assigned was excellent. He was extremely skilled, nice and hard-working.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

Very consistent in their actions and operations.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

Estimation accuracy

Cloud servises for International Airport

Roman Bozhko
posted on 3/3/21
HRK (Kharkiv International Airoport) needed to lower its operational costs to accommodate the reduction in business operations. IT Svit helped us move the company’s IT infrastructure to cloud space, a flexible cloud services consumption model that enables IATA to select the services it needs at different stages in its cloud journey.

We don’t expect aviation to run at the capacity we were prior to COVID-19 until at least 2025. The pandemic accelerated the need for us to work towards becoming leaner and meaner, in a way that can be learnt from and replicated by our members that are also struggling with the massive impact of COVID-19 on the aviation industry.

They partner with HRK at every stage of our cloud journey, enabling us to modernize applications, build new products and adopt innovative technologies.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

Performance in a line with project comprehension

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

All set sufficiently enough

Backend Infrastructure Dev & Design for Cloud Company

Kirill Prokopenko
posted on 6/11/19
We needed to build a new version of our infrastructure after taking in another round of funding to scale the company. We realized that our current platform was inadequate because customer provisioning and deployment were manual rather than automatic.

IT Svit builds backend infrastructure enabling customer provisioning on a network services platform, integrating with a CRM and third parties’ modules. UI design and development operations work is anticipated. Deployment time for new customer provision has reduced from 1.5 weeks to one hour. IT Svit’s efficient, high-quality work has led to more than 30% budget savings. They’ve been given additional responsibilities as a result of their performance including technical project management.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

They’ll improve the quality of your work because they’re invested in it and perform extremely well.

Amazon web services & cloud migration for the financial web app

Y
IT Svit team performed a migration of our website. First of all, they performed an audit of the infrastructure. After that they worked on the tooling and CI/CD processes in the AWS. They moved our app and database to Amazon. The second phase included testing and optimization, setting up monitoring and logging. We still work with them - engineers monitor our system, assist developers with their requests and suggest improvements as our product grows. Thanks to IT Svit, our customers no longer experience timeouts on our application. Moreover, we managed to reduce the infrastructure costs, as soon as IT Svit finished the migration.
Pros :
  • We achieved about 25% cost reduction because we moved to the cloud with this team.
  • They always provide us with good estimations and fulfill them.
Cons :
  • There’s nothing I can think about in terms of improvements. I am happy to work with such knowledgeable and proactive experts.

AWS Infrastructure Optimization

Serafima Orlova

We were searching for best practices of DevOps workflow implementation and found a pretty decent description of this strategy in an article on Hackernoon, published by IT Svit CEO, Vladimir Fedak. We contacted them and they showed an in-depth understanding of the challenges we faced and offered solutions for them at once.

We needed someone to configure the AWS pipeline for CI/CD features. We needed our Terraform and Kubernetes deployments automated, as well as configuring continuous monitoring for our environments. They handled the full scope of the tasks we needed to be done. They automated the server provisioning for all of our projects and enabled us to monitor them through smart alerting using ELK stack, Prometheus & Grafana or AWS CloudWatch.

It Svit helps us with the DevOps processes optimization and team extension

Yevhen Volchenko
1 week, 3 days ago
We've obtained a cost-effective and competent DevOps service without the need to hire a dedicated team of administrators that surprised me, to be honest, as I haven't worked with companies before.

IT Svit has extended my in-house team with strong people who became an integral part of it. To maintain and improve system uptime and security, they regularly revise (modernize, optimize) the internal services, namely database systems (have consolidated them into clusters), anti-virus protection, monitoring systems, CMS, file-server systems, local network, and more. I continue working with the team as our project needs a variety of different skills for the improvements and IT Svit is able to cover everything, that's I appreciate.
Pros :
  • Transparent project management, deadlines corresponding, excellent communication skills, quick response
Cons :
  • I have nothing to say, because during our cooperation I am getting perfect outcomes.

Executive Interview
Vladimir Fedak
Vladimir Fedak
CEO, IT Svit
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
I am the CEO of IT Svit. Our company is a worldwide Managed Services Provider from Ukraine. We were listed among the top 1000 IT companies worldwide for the third time in a row and have 15 years of experience in providing software development and cloud infrastructure management, end-to-end Big Data/ML/AI solutions.

In 2019 we also created our own product. What once began as an internal tool to solve certain issues became one of the leaders of the HRIS/HRM systems market in Ukraine called the HURMA System.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
I gathered a group of friends and formed a team for remote administration of servers and providing other IT services, as working as a team is much more productive than working alone. When we worked as system administrators in several businesses and organizations in Kharkiv, we witnessed the lack of skills and resources these companies faced. Outsourcing to us helped them get instant access to skilled professionals on a project basis.
What is your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
IT Svit houses 60+ software developers and DevOps engineers. We provide a full range of services for startups, from MVP development, DevOps cloud management services and CI/CD implementation, infrastructure and workflow optimization, scaling to enterprise, and implementation of Big Data analytics and Machine Learning models. We provide out-staffing, nearshoring, and dedicated teams for businesses from the EU, US, and other countries.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
We house a pool of skilled talents with decades of experience in building end-to-end cloud solutions. We provide honed workflows and ready solutions for the most common challenges any business faces. Due to this experience, we can rapidly outline the best roadmap for every project, estimate the tasks correctly, and deliver the services on time and under budget.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive?
Software startups and small-to-medium businesses that interact with their customers online form the bulk of our customers. There were many repetitive projects, and around 30% of our customers were referred to us by previous satisfied customers. We also support 14 large projects full-time for our long-time partners.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing software.
We have ample experience in developing various applications for industries like finance, marketing, banking, cryptocurrency, retail, and logistics. We form the time frames for new projects based on this experience and the best practices we use. Obviously, the time frame for any project depends on the size of the team, the technology stack used, the scope of work, the roadmap, the need for integrations with third-party software, etc.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of software?
This depends largely on the scope of work. We had our share of projects where we delivered only the design or the frontend or the backend features for some products. Obviously, we prefer working on long-term projects where we can provide all the needed expertise and cater to all needs of our customers.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right framework for developing software?
This depends on the software tools and workflows already used by the customer and the most popular tech in their respective industry. Obviously, nobody would develop an Android app on Scala. We select the most appropriate technology and frameworks for every project based on our expertise and the ease of integration with the rest of the customer’s software ecosystem.
Which languages & frameworks do you prefer to use in development of software?
We work with PHP/Laravel, Python/Django/Flask, Node/Vue/React JS, R language, SQL/NoSQL databases, Apache stack, etc. We also employ the full scope of DevOps tools to deal with all aspects of software delivery, from infrastructure configuration to continuous monitoring. Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Circle CI, Ansible, Prometheus + Grafana, ELK stack, Sumologic, Hashicorp stack, AWS products, Google Cloud products, etc.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of software?
We form individual price lists based on project specifications, as some projects clearly cost more due to having different scopes of work. However, we don’t charge different clients different sums for the same work. Whether you are a startup or a global corporation, the cost of an hour of DevOps services or Python development will be the same.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We prefer to handle the projects fully; we charge the cost of a dedicated team working full-time with monthly payment.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
The threshold of a minimal project budget is $15,000 - $25,000 for us.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
In 2019 we handled several projects in the price range of $50,000+. As for our long-term partnerships, some of the customers have invested $200,000 - $500,000 with us.
Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
We are just starting our collaboration with GoodFirms, but we are sure the results would be fruitful!
