Marevo Executive Interview
Slava Bystrytskyi
Co-Founder & CEO
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the organization.
Marevo is a Ukrainian software company that specializes in augmented reality development for iOS/Android mobile devices. Since the first day, we aspire to reveal augmented reality as a useful business tool, not just a fun feature.
As CEO of Marevo, I drive strategy and execution for Marevo. I consider each project as a way not just to provide a reliable software tool but also as a chance to move the world further into the future.

What is the story behind starting this company?
There is no cute story behind starting the company. Mainly, our co-founders' experience had been based on different AR fun solutions before it was decided to run our own company. We already had met a few cases of AR for business so we saw great potential in such use.
'Tools, not toys' - this is our motto from the beginning.

What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
I wish I could say all our employees sit in a cozy office. Unfortunately, the year 2020 has made its adjustments. We have an in-house team but our guys work from their homes now... Also, sometimes, we engage a few non-Ukrainian experts for specific tasks for our projects.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
You won't find a long list of our services. There is only Augmented reality. And we develop for mobile devices only. We don't spread ourselves out in other technologies and areas. It lets me say that we are experts in this niche.
The second point is the 'Tools, not toys' statement I mentioned above. We decline game-projects and focus on tasks from a business only.

What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
I wouldn't say that AR for business is an area where sales are repetitive in general. Probably, it's more about marketing campaigns with entertainment content. However, support and upgrades for such software are required.
We've created a few specific AR solutions for construction and renovation domains. The ratio of clients we continue collaborating with is about 70%. It includes support and enhancement of the feature range.
Construction and renovation are areas in which we have the best expertise. However, we are always excited to work on innovative solutions for any of the industries.

Please share some of the services that you offer for which clients approach you the most for?
Many companies need to present their goods or services in an environment where it is physically very difficult or expensive to do. We specialize in markerless AR technology. It fits well for such companies. For example, furniture manufacturers. We can help in a case, the issue requires additional customization and can't be solved with simple webAR (with AR Quick Look, for example).
But in most cases, we work with wall-covering and flooring related businesses. Our "Excellent floor" solution is created exactly for them.

What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer’s needs and requirements?
Successful client means also our success. We understand it very well. So we always strongly warn a client against useless expenses (for AR, of course) if we are sure it won't enhance their business. It reduces our income at that moment but helps to save a client for the future.
We do our best to provide them with our experience in the AR area. It's something like an in-house AR expert who doesn't allow wasting the budget. Who selects the tools most suitable for the requirements of the task and the opportunities of the client.
We always collect clients’ feedback. We want to know how effective was the expenses. Did they get any benefits thanks to the collaboration with us?
I would compare the customer satisfaction with the ratio of clients we go on our cooperation. If most of them are still with us, I believe it means a high level of satisfaction.

What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
We suggest 2 months of free support that allows fixing issues no one didn't manage to find before.
The monthly fee ensures 4 hours of response time. The fixing time is 48 hours. Or more if the issue requires more. An account manager controls it.
Paid support also includes 6 free hours for upgrades that can be ensured within 5 business days. It means the client doesn't need to wait a few weeks before we'll find the time slot. It's provided for in advance.

What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions, etc.)
We are pretty flexible in our approach to the payment. It depends on the type and size of a project.
In a case with our popular AR solutions, we combine Fixed Cost and Pay per feature. We prefer the T&M approach for a project that requires an additional research stage.

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
We develop different kinds of projects. Each of them has its own approach. We prefer considering custom projects with a budget that starts at $5000.
Also, we have AR solutions with a fixed scope of features. The minimum price there is $3500.
However, we always consider the request from a perspective point. If it's a promising area we can discuss discounts or installment payment.

What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2020?
The minimal budget was $450 (not including free social projects). The max price among projects without NDA was $23.000.
Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?
I'm not sure if it is possible to discuss such far plans in the current world :)
The only thing we're sure there will be a lot of changes in communication and interaction. And AR will hold one of the most prominent positions.
Our company intends to develop our construction and renovation apps. We work on being the leading provider of AR solutions in this domain. All indications are that within the next 10 years, we'll get more and more AR tools. They will be so powerful that ordinary customers won't be able to differentiate digital objects from real physical ones.
We plan to be on the cutting edge all that time.

Augmented Reality app
Review Summary
We had a great experience working with Marevo on this project. We needed an Augmented Reality app to show products and buildings, targeting both Android and iOS. They were very professional and they pay great attention to feedback and detail. I would love to work with them again.
