As part of Copenhagen-based Hindenburg Systems’ website rebranding, they needed a series of customer story videos for their flagship “Hindenburg Pro” audio editing software. We put together a concept around the theme of “Tell Your Stories” and profiled an initial group of 3 podcasters in Denmark and Peru. We concentrated on their love of storytelling and, specifically, the ins and outs of their podcasting journey.

We chose to highlight the audio storytelling angle by recording the interviews as audio-only in their home studios and then filmed them on a typical day of podcasting activities. The end product was a package that included the main customer stories film, three shorter videos about each of the podcasters, as well as social media edits of all the videos.

We were incredibly honored to be chosen by NASA's Ames Research Center to produce a short documentary film about NASA & DLR’s unique and historic “flying observatory,” the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) during its last year of operations.

The documentary follows a day-in-the-life format and profiles a group of scientists and crew members on a typical SOFIA mission, from flight preparations to the mission itself. The goal was to not only learn about the “how” of the mission, but also get a glimpse of the core mission themes of curiosity, creativity, and teamwork, and to answer the big question that drives everybody involved: the “why.”

We chose to follow a minimalist cinematic style, showcasing carefully crafted day-in-the-life images along with sit-down studio interviews with the inspiring voices of key SOFIA project members. Additionally, to support the cinematic style, we shot in widescreen using anamorphic lenses.

The documentary was shot on location at SOFIA’s base of operations: NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Palmdale, California; as well as in the skies of North America.

Education

UCLA Physical Sciences needed an introduction/recruiting film and wanted an accompanying short video series that would profile some of their groundbreaking faculty and graduate students.

We put together a concept around “a day in the life” of the program, starting at dawn and following the selected subjects during a typical day. We concentrated on the subjects’ passion for science by showcasing their work and dreams for the future and exploring their particular fields' challenges.

Since we would be shooting in real academic situations and needed to be unobtrusive, we worked with a small two or three-person team, depending on the day's needs. For the interviews, we used a “looking straight at the camera” style for an intimate connection with the audience, with a backdrop made up of a blackboard populated by formulas and notes of each subject’s field of study.

The end product was a package that included the main introduction film and five shorter videos about each subject.
